September 8th - Mets 2, Indians 1
Sunday afternoon on the reservation in Cleveland, Eric Young Jr. hit a line double down the rightfield line in the top of the 9th inning scoring Matt Den Dekker from 2nd. The Mets salvage the final game of their weekend series against the Indians with a 2-1 win. Justin Turner continued his weekend power show as he connected for his 2nd homer on the year and of the series to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning. Turner connected off Indian flamethrower Danny Salazar for his 2nd homer in 3 days . Diasuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and coming into the game was 0-3 with a 10.95 era. But against the Indians he showed flashes of his 2008 form but he is left with a no decision. Matsuzaka went 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits 1 run he walked 3 and struck out a season high 6. Dice K tired in the 6th, as he left the game with the bases juiced. Vic Black came in …and plunked Asdrubal Cabrera on the right calf to force home the game tying run (the run was charged to Dice K) Salazar, 23, had Tommy John surgery in 2010 and was throwing smoke…but only lasted 4 innings. His line was 4 innings, 4 hits 1 run, he walked 2 and struck out 8. Tied at 1 in the top of the 8th, the Mets had 2nd and 3rd with none out and loaded the bases with one out but Turner and Juan Lagares both struck out against former Met Joe Smith to nullify the threat. Lagares went 0 for 4 ending his 12 game hit streak. In the Ninth the Mets took the 2-1 lead, LaTroy Hawkins pitched the bottom of the 9th for his 8th save on the year. With the win the Mets stop their 2 game slide. They improve to 64-77 overall and are now 36-39 on the road. Monday, the Mets come home to start a 4 game series against the Nationals. Carlos Torres (3-3 2.89) goes for the Amazins….lefty Gio Gonzales (9-6 3.49) goes for the Nats. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
