Draft 14 - An Early Look At - LHP Forest Griffin - The First Academy, Orlando

draft - forest griffinFoster Griffin

7-24-13  -  Foster Griffin, lhp, The First Academy, Orlando/Orlando Scorpions - At 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, Griffin has a large frame, strong lower half and lanky build that offers projection. With long arms, Griffin gets downhill plane from a high three-quarter arm slot. He has a long arm action that creates natural glove-side run. The Mississippi commit can touch 92 mph and sits 88-91 and offers a 71-74 curveball with three-quarter tilt. His mid-70s changeup with fade might be a better offering. Griffin, who plays travel ball with the Orlando Scorpions, attends The First Academy, which has at least three seniors who could be drafted a year after producing third-round shortstop Ben Deluzio. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 18. Foster Griffin – LHP, The First Academy (FL) - Big, projectable LHP who is already sitting 91-92 http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 50. Foster Griffin, LHP, The First Academy (FL) - At 6’-5” and 190 pounds, the southpaw has a lot of projection and already has a great feel for pitching. His fastball can touch 92 mph and he adds a mid-70s change-up with nice fade. He has a loose and lanky frame, which bodes well for added velocity and mechanics. His size alone makes him an intriguing prospect. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-27-13 - Player:  Foster Griffin   Primary Position:  LHP  Secondary Position(s):  OF  Height/Weight:  6’5/195  Bats/Throws:  R/L  Home Town:  Orlando, FL  School:  The First Academy   Travel Team(s):  Orlando Scorpions  Class of:  2014  Committed To:  Mississippi  Scouting Notes:  2013 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars Notes from Don Olsen - Long, sloped and slider athletic build in Brian Matusz type mold.  He has a sound three piece delivery with the balance and transfer that is relaxed, effortless.  He repeats well for a long and limber pitcher, nice extension that allows him to attack the lower half with plane on every offering.  Fastball was 89-91 mph with an extension that plays up the offering.  Good movement on it with a tough plane to square up.  Curve, 73-75 mph, has the shape and path to project into an above average offering.  He did not show the change up this event, but that pitch could round out a nice 3 pitch mix.  Foster is very projectable with easy arm speed. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/27/2014-mlb-draft-profile-foster-griffin/

8-15-13 - Under Armour All-Star Game – Foster Griffin, LHP:  Another 6'5" pitcher, Griffin is still gangly with room to grow but the height also gives him some natural plane,  He doesn't throw all that hard now 88-92, but there's obviously some projection left in that 195 lbs. build and could easily develop well above average velo for a southpaw.  He also has glove side run on his FB.  In addition, Griffin throws a curve and an advanced change for his age. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/08/2014-mlb-draft-ua-game-roster-and-preview-plus-more-tickets-and-meet-up-information/

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 24 –  LHP Forrest Griffin – The First Academy (FL) HS – Another big lefty (6-5) tha has moved into my first round after an impressive summer at places like the 2013 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars and Under Armour All-Star Game. Fastball: 89-91… curve 73-75… still some velo projection. Had a great summer
