If they build it, wins will come.

First things first. A Doctor has to rebuild Matt Harvey's arm. This young man's elbow has single handedly changed the course of a franchise....well, at least for 2014.
After three years of building, 2014 supposedly was the time in which a new day was coming. New blood was to be brought in. Money was to be spent. Excess of top young pitching was to be traded away for specific needs, and the Mets were to return to glory.
However, at this time, what are the Mets left with? Harvey is out. Johan never even made it. Hefner succeeded beyond expectations, and then his elbow gave out. Mejia and Familia finally burst onto the scene......and then their elbows gave out.
Hell, even Wilmer Flores FINALLY made it, after what seemed like decades, to the big show.....until his ankles gave out.
All of a sudden, the 2014 Mash.....I mean, Mets unit will start with 3 starting pitchers. Well, maybe this is a sign. A sign of what continues to have to happen for the Mets. A need for continued building.
As Harvey dominated, and Wheeler started to figure it out, all anyone in the Mets world could talk about, during another losing season, was which starting pitching prospect (Thor, Montero, Degrom), and hitter without a position (Flores), could be traded for the best major league hitter.
Maybe we are all missing the point here. The point is to build talent. And, yes, the Mets have STARTED to build. However, when you break it down, most of the top prospects in the organization are not even close to catching a slight hot breeze from that desert sun of AAA baseball.
Mets fans are anxious because Mets fans don't want to be Yankees fans. Mets fans understand that they are New York fans, in a New York market. A Market which is supposed to produce wins, because the market is supposed to allow for plenty of income.
But the time has still yet to come. Check the minor league stats this year. Even in the low minors, there are still even more pitching prospects on and off the DL with injuries. Brandon Nimmo missed a chunk of the season after starting off hot at the plate. The organization is still not ready yet to start trading away prospects for major league talent.
Of course, the problem is, if Sandy Alderson and the Wilpons refuse to spend for top free agents seeking 5+ year deals, then what is left?
Maybe Mets fans have to wait one more year. Maybe some of that Alderson Money ball magic will produce another low cost, high reward veteran like Marlon Byrd, who the team can trade next deadline for more prospects.
Maybe, in the meantime, the 2013 draft class will start looking good at different levels, the 2014 draft will produce a dream, and the Mets will HOLD ON TO THE PITCHING THEY HAVE and build something with their arms...............and hope their elbows don't give out.
Let's face it, at this point, Mets fans are simply hoping for a winning record, not a world series next year. Let the building continue. Let the Hype of Thor and Montero begin.
