Smart move. Hefner deserved to be brought back. Since he is unlikely to pitch in 2014, non-tendering him made good sense if they intended to bring him back on a minor league deal while he rehabs.
I was surprised to see Turner non-tendered, but if he did fail to hustle, I could see why he turned Terry the FO off. I wonder if they might use the action to spank him, and then resign him after a while, figuring he has learned his lesson.
I'm glad Hefner is back, he is a good and reliable arm to have and I'm sure he'll be ready to go in 2015 or maybe even in September of 2014 depending on how the TJ rehab goes.
Turner was good but I think the Mets want to bring quality consistent players who have a more serious tone to them, not ones who do good here and there and focus more on silly antics in the clubhouse.
