Top 34 LHP in the 2014 MLB Draft

LHP

1.       Carlos Rodon

1-7-13 - Behold, Carlos Rodon, ace of the North Carolina State pitching staff.

Rodon, a 6-foot-2 left hander, took the college baseball world by storm as a true freshman in 2012 with his 9-0 record, 1.57 ERA, 135/41 strikeout to walk ratio and 71 hits allowed in 114 2/3 innings. The unfortunately-not-a-draft-eligible sophomore was a 16th round pick of the Brewers in 2011. At that time, he was around 30 pounds lighter, weighing around 200, and threw between 88-92 MPH with his fastball. He was coveted for his projectability and potential plus slider, but decided to attend college and it is clear now that he made the right call. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/1/7/3846162/carlos-rodon-prize-of-the-2014-draft

5-23-13 - Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State - The 6’-3”, 235-pound southpaw, who is about a clear-cut number-one overall pick as there is, didn’t start the season on a high note. In the season opener against Appalachian State, he gave up five runs over six innings in a 6-3 loss. He did, however, strikeout eight to just one walk, so it wasn’t all that bad. His last two starts have been something out of a video game. Over 14 innings, he has allowed one run on just two hits, including seven no-hit innings against LaSalle in which Karl Keglovits finished off the no-no with two hitless frames. Over those 14 innings, Rodon has struck out an incredible 30 batters to just three walks, pushing his season totals to 38 K/ 5 BB over 20 innings (17.1 K/9). He has a five- pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s heater, a power slider, a lethal cutter, an above-average curveball and a change-up with nice fade. He commands all of them and is comfortable throwing any of them in any situation LINK

6-2-13 - Carlos Rodon has spent much of his sophomore year searching for the form that made him one of the best pitchers in the nation as a freshman. He’s found it when it matters most. Rodon pitched on Saturday like the country has come to expect, firing a two-hit shutout Saturday against William & Mary in the winners’ bracket game at the Raleigh Regional. North Carolina State needed every bit of Rodon’s dominance too, emerging with a 1-0 win against a tough Tribe squad as Rodon and his opposite number, John Farrell, traded zeroes deep into the night. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/rodon/

6-9-13  -  1.Carlos Rodon, LHP (NC State): You could have make an argument for Rodon going 1:1 this year. His stuff, K rate, polish, and mechanics all point to him being a strong 1 or 2 starter. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-10-13 -  Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State - Rodon begins the summer as the favorite to go first overall in the 2014 draft.  When he is on, he is the most dominant pitcher in college baseball.  His fastball sits 92-95 and his slider is a plus plus pitch.  His curve, change, and cutter are also quality pitches. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/10/2014-mlb-draft-early-college-names-to-know/

6-11-13 - 1. Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State: The Wolfpack are headed to the College World Series and Rodon is a big reason why. Even after starting slowly, the big lefty has gone 9-2 with a 3.19 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 118 1/3 innings. There is almost universal consensus that he's the early choice to be No. 1 in 2014. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130611&content_id=50293726&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb&tcid=tw_article_50293726

6-13-13  -  2. Houston Astros — Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State - Rodon has pretty much everything you want in an ace. At 6’-2” and 230 pounds, the southpaw definitely has the size to carry the workload and his legs look like tree trunks. He has a five-pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s heater, a power slider, a lethal cutter, an above-average curveball and a change-up with nice fade. He commands all of them well and is comfortable throwing any of them in any situation. Over 16 starts so far this year, he has a 3.19 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 161 K/40 BB over 110 innings. Opponents are hitting just .190 against him. His junior season should be full of ridiculousness. The only knock I have heard on him is his size and if he will be able to maintain that kind of velocity for the long haul. He also tends to get into control issues at times. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

6-17-13  -  Carlos Rodon, LHP, N.C. State - Last year Rodon (6-foot-3, 234) became the first Division I freshman to be finalist for the Golden Spikes Award as college baseball's best player. This year, he is the ace of a Wolfpack team that has advanced to the College World Series. He is a coveted power lefty whose fastball sits in the mid-90s and can reach the upper 90s. He has two obviously plus pitches "His fastball can be overwhelming and dominant," Simpson said, "and he has a wipeout slider." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20130610/draft-prospects-carlos-rodon/#ixzz2WWk0FqzU

6-18-13  -  Jordan Sams ‏@astrosjordan  - Carlos Rodon is going be so good. I can't believe he's coming out the year the Astros won't have 1-1.

6-19-13  -  from Don Olson on 6/18/2013 - Stout wide frame, impressive present strength and build, think maturation and power potential TORL. FB was 90-94 mph (95), cruising speed is never an issue.  4S was solid 92-95 mph, nice backspin with arm slot tails away from RHH.  Works both sides of the plate, attacks the inside, and changes eye levels constantly with the offering, all natural late subtle movement.  Command is average, think it can improve with his ability, losses it a little too much low, point of improvement. He hides the ball well and can get hitters to stretch the zone.  2S 90-91 mph (92) with a good amount of hand side tail that is hard, showed good command, hits it consistently L/O.  Cutter/Baby Slider was tight with good bite, more horizontal than vertical tilt at 89-91, safe plus grade with room to grow, effective action to both sides hitters, shows action that forces swings. Curve has good shape, a lot of spin with late drop action, but not a heavy rotation offering at any view this spring.  He shows a projectable change, showed good arm action and potentially highly deceptive, but it is a work in progress, point to monitor in the future.

6-28-13 - Carlos Rodon, LHP, N.C. State - Not only is there no better player in the 2014 draft than Carlos Rodon, he'll be the best pitching prospect drafted since Stephen Strasburg was picked in 2008. A 6'2'' lefty, Rodon sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and throws a sinker that's already a plus pitch. He also throws a low 90s cutter and a few more pitches, ranging from a curve, changeup and splitter. They're all behind the others, and he'll most likely choose one and scrap the others when he reaches pro ball. He has an easy throwing motion from the left side that generates easy velocity, and scouts really like his mechanics. Though a team like the Marlins could opt to take one of the elite high school bats if they get the #1 pick next year, there's no reason at this point why Rodon is not deserving of the #1 overall pick http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/6/28/4450674/the-way-too-early-2014-tcb-astros-draft-board

7-6-13 - Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler  - Carlos Rodon looks like he would dominate a Double-A lineup today. And that's being conservative.

7-23-13 - John Manuel ‏@johnmanuelba  - Standing O for Carlos Rodon well deserved. He finishes the night with 11 SO in 6.2 IP, 0 BB, 21 SO in 17 IP for the summer with Team USA vs. Cuba

8-5-14  -  Who are the top five lefthanded pitching prospects in baseball, with ceiling as the primary consideration? (question from Jim Kubinski) – answer from Jim Callis - The best lefty prospect in baseball isn’t a professional yet. North Carolina State’s Carlos Rodon is the favorite to go No. 1 overall draft, and he looked spectacular in his final Team USA outing of the summer. http://ht.ly/nEhSu

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 1. Carlos Rodon, LHP, NC State - The prize of the draft, the 6’-3” southpaw continued to demonstrate his silly array of abilities against the rest of the world after posting a 2.99 ERA, 1.05 WHIP with 184 K/45 BB over 132.1 innings for the Wolfpack this year. Pitching for The Collegiate National Team, he went 3-0 with 21 K/4 BB over 17 shutout innings, allowing just five hits. He has a five-pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s heater, a power slider, a lethal cutter, an above-average curveball and a change-up with nice fade. He commands all of them well and is comfortable throwing any of them in any situation. There may not be much projection left but what more do you want? http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-30-13 – Top 5 MLB Draft Prospects - #1. Carlos Rodon, LHP (NC State): You may possibly have prepared a plight for Rodon going 1:1 this year. His junk, K rate, refinement, and mechanics all point to him being a durable 1 or 2 starter. Rodon, a 6-foot-3, 234-pound sophomore, maintains an 18-2 record and a 2.39 ERA as a N.C. State pitcher. His 9-2 record displays the potential of certain Major League aptitude. Trusting on a mix of mid-90s fastballs, power sliders, cutters, curveballs and changeups, Rodon is so prevailing that he could be the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/30/top-5-mlb-draft-prospects/

8-27-13 - 1. Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State (Draft eligible: 2014)  -  The exceptional 6-foot-3, 234-pound, junior left-handed pitcher has had quite a whirlwind past few months. Rodon entered his sophomore campaign with the Wolfpack with high hopes in the spring, but it took him a while to get going, as evidenced by some early command issues. Rodon only got better as the spring progressed, pitching exceptionally well down the stretch and in the College World Series with a fastball anywhere from 93-97 in Omaha.   Well, Rodon only continued his impressive ways this summer while pitching for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Rodon didn’t allow a run in four starts and 17 innings of work, while also striking out 21 and walking four. From a prospect standpoint, Rodon is the clear-cut favorite to be the top pick in the 2014 MLB draft. In addition to having a durable frame, Rodon possesses a hard-nosed, come at you type of attitude, along with elite stuff. He pitched off his fastball quite a bit this summer, a pitch that has some late, exploding life on it at times. Rodon also utilized an 85-87 slider with two-plane break, while that pitch also was up to 89 at times. Last but not least, Rodon used a low-80s changeup, a pitch that many would like him to use more in the latter innings come spring. Overall, Rodon’s near impeccable fastball command reminded some close to USA Baseball to former Vanderbilt start left-handed pitcher David Price, while he showed much more confidence in his slider as the summer progressed.   Rodon’s freshman campaign in 2012 convinced many of us that he was clearly the top prospect in the 2014 MLB draft college class. Then, we had a second thought when he started slow out of the gate for the Wolfpack in the spring. But now, after such a dominance performance with Team USA, the gritty and durable lefty is right back where he started his collegiate career. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=8927

9-1-13 - Jim Callis – 1. Carlos Rodon, lhp, North Carolina State - Spectacular summer with Team USA cements him as clear top prospect for now.

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 –  1 – Houston – LHSP Carlos Rodon – North Carolina State – This might be the last year that the Astros gets the first pick in the draft, though it is the third in the row. It’s close to impossible… no, I take that back… it’s literally impossible for them to pass on picking Rodon, who is so far more taleted than anyone in this draft. He has a five- pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s fastball, a wipeout slider, a lethal cutter, an above-average curveball and a change-up with nice fade. He could be in the majors by late 2015.

9-27-13 - Carlos Rodon is the clear favorite to go No. 1 overall next June. He claimed that status during his 2012 freshman season with North Carolina State. He solidified it last spring, when he led NCAA Division I with 184 strikeouts in 132 1/3 innings and carried the Wolfpack to its first College World Series berth since 1968, and strengthened his case during a banner summer with Team USA. If Rodon already were an Astro, he'd face some stiff competition in what I consider baseball's best farm system (more on that in a second). Nevertheless, he'd fit somewhere between the last two No. 1 overall picks at the top of our Houston list, behind shortstop Carlos Correa and ahead of right-hander Mark Appel. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130927&content_id=61864804&c_id=

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 1.) LHP, Carlos Rodon, N C State, 6'3 230, L/L, everyone can't stop talking about him since his days in Apex and he should have never got the chance to go to college in my opinion and next spring if not this late summer, he would have made his ML Debut, but that's just me I reckon, Carlos has steadily added velo since his soph year in Apex going from 84-88 then to 93-98 now from upper 3/4 to 3/4 slot, most are 93-94 early and can sustain the velo and reach back for a lil extra on occ, hard slide piece is a 70 pitch, that's 84-88 and also will flash a show me straight change tease, he competes like a bulldog and he throws strikes, he will on occ rush himself, he will give you max effort and sustain his strength deep into games. Best lefty to come into the collegiate ranks in my opinion since Craig Swindell who pitched at Texas back in the day. This is your top 1-3 guy for the first round in 2014 people!  http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 1. Houston Astros — Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State - The “Lastros” have now secured the first-overall pick a record three years in a row. Barring an injury or signability issues, their prize this year will be Rodon, a 6’-3”, 240 pound southpaw with exceptional stuff. As a sophomore for the Wolfpack, he posted a 2.99 ERA, 1.05 WHIP with 184 K/45 BB over 132.1 innings. He then went out and dominated for the Collegiate National Team, going 3-0 with 21 K/4 BB over 17 shutout innings, allowing just five hits. He has a five-pitch arsenal that includes a mid-90s heater, a power slider, a lethal cutter, an above-average curveball and a change-up with nice fade. He commands all of them well and is comfortable throwing any of them in any situation. After taking Mark Appel with the first-overall pick in this year’s draft, he and Rodon could form a devastating 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation for an organization loaded with talent. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects - 1. Carlos Rodon, lhp, North Carolina State (Drafted: 2011, Brewers -- 16th round) - There are very few things negative that can be said about Rodon. Rodon is a stocky 6-foot-3, 234-pounder, who despite his dominant stuff, plays with a chip on his shoulder. Besides his bulldog-like attitude, Rodon has a 93-97 mph fastball, 85-87 slider with two-plane break and a low-80s changeup with potential. One college baseball legend recently told me he hadn’t seen a lefty like Rodon in at least 10 years. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9081

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 1. Carlos Rodon, lhp, N.C. State: Could have ranked No. 1 in previous two draft classes with a 93-95 mph fastball and premium slider. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-18-13 – Matt Garroich – Carlos Rodon is the best lefty in the country and, as it stands, the clear-cut favorite to go first overall. He is the ace of the N.C. State Wolfpack and has been since he came to campus. He will likely be the same on any team he pitches as long as he is healthy. On the same squad is one of the top college hitters, Trea Turner. He is an impressive athlete with 80 speed and solid defense at short while swinging the bat well enough to impact in the batters box as well. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/10/18/4851030/2014-mlb-draft-atlantic-region-college-discussion

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 1. Carlos Rodon / LHP / N.C. State — There isn’t much more to say about Rodon at this point, a left-handed ace with a mid 90′s fastballs and one of the best slider’s I’ve seen from an amateur. Rodon enters the year as the prohibitive favorite to be the first player selected in the 2014 draft. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll – 1 Carlos Rodon    LHP North Carolina State http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  1- LHP Carlos Rodon NC State 12/10/92: Clear-cut #1 player in the 2014 MLB draft. The lefty has dominated college baseball with a plus fastball and slider. (Astros @ 1) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

2.       Brandon Finnegan

6-9-13  -  12.Brandon Finnegan, LHP (TCU): He’s overshadowed by Rodon as far as college lefties go, but Finnegan has touched the upper 90s with a plus breaking ball (and posted nearly an identical FIP to Rodon). http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-11-13 - Player:  Brandon Finnegan -  Position:  LHP -  School:  Texas Christian -  Date of Birth:  4/14/1993 -  Height/Weight:  5’11/184 -  Bats/Throws:  L/L -  2014 Class:  College Junior -  Previously Drafted:  2011, 45th rd, Rangers -  Scouting Report:  Low 3/4 arm slot   Quick arm   Fastball 93-96 early, 91-94 late, has touched 97   Fastball shows very good life -  Slider, 85-88, shows above average potential -  Change 82-85 -  Does a good job of changing speeds -  Has some issues with command http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/11/2014-mlb-draft-profile-brandon-finnegan/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 34. Brandon Finnegan, LHP, TCU - He has reportedly hit triple-digits with his fastball. That alone will get you first-round attention. At 5-’11”, however, his size draws question marks for a frontline starter. He also features an upper-70s slurve and a decent change-up that has come a long way. He could end up a dominant closer in the mold of Billy Wagner. Had 86 K/35 BB over 79.1 innings as a sophomore. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

7-17-13 –  Brandon Finnegan, LHP, TCU - The stadium gun was off on Monday night but it was easy to see Finnegan was throwing heat, blowing his fastball past hitters and recording two strikeouts in his one inning of work.  Kevin Gallo tells me he topped out at 96 mph.  I mention Finnegan because he's just 5'11", 185 lbs and generates much of that velocity with tremendous arm speed.  Obviously there's not a lot of downward plane here and you wonder if his size will relegate him to the bullpen, though I'm told he can sustain that velocity late in games and he has a hard slider and a solid change-up to go with the fastball -- so he does have the necessary tools/skills to stick as a starter.   Either way, he's an interesting prospect whether he sticks as a starter or becomes a Billy Wagner type closer. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/07/looking-ahead-to-the-2014-and-2015-mlb-draft-notes-from-the-collegiate-national-team-games/

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 27 –  LHP Brandon Finnegan – TCU – In any other year Finnegan would be easily ranked as the top college lefty in the draft.  Fastball: 93-96, 97…  slider: 85-85... change 82-85… Very polished pitcher who mixes pitches well. Some project him out as an eventual closer.

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects -  4. Brandon Finnegan, lhp, Texas Christian (Drafted: 2011, Rangers -- 45th round) - The fact Finnegan is a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder, might turn off some because he’s a not an imposing physical specimen, but don’t let that fool you. Finnegan has a classic Texas gunslinger attitude, and has the stuff to complement that well. He’s 95-98 with his fastball, has good feel for an 82-84 changeup and continues to develop a low-80s slider. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9081

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 23. Brandon Finnegan, lhp, Texas Christian: Smallish lefty holds upper-90s velocity deep into games and developed a plus slider during his time with Team USA. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 6. Brandon Finnegan / LHP / TCU — Finnegan gets rave reviews for his feel for pitching — and has touched 98 with his fastball to go along with an above-average slider and average change — although his size and arm action could give teams concerns. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll –   12 Brandon Finnegan    LHP Texas Christian http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 6. Seattle Mariners: Brandon Finnegan, LHP, Texas Christian - While Brandon Finnegan doesn’t require much physical projection at 5’11”, 190 pounds, the left-handed pitcher boasts one of the better fastballs in the draft class, sitting consistently in the mid-90s and even flirting with triple digits at times. More importantly, he’s already shown the ability to hold the velocity deep into games. His breaking ball is slurvey, registering in the low-80s with a deceptive shape and projects as an above-average offering at maturity. His changeup is another solid pitch with good fading action out of the zone. Beyond the stuff, Finnegan stands out in the draft class for his feel for sequencing and overall confidence on the mound. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  39- LHP Brandon Finnegan TCU 4/14/93- The win total for a pitcher we all know is a terrible statistic to define how good a pitcher is. Certainly, that case is proven with Brandon who went 0-8 as a sophomore at TCU. The power lefty sits under 6’0 but routinely dials his fastball at 95 plus. Some see him as a game changing 2-pitch reliever but he certainly has the repertoire to be a SP if his change develops. But, if I had to project him out I would suggest his future is out of the bullpen. (Out of first round- Rockies selection) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

3.       Brady Aiken

7-2-13 - 24. Brady Aiken- LHP, Cathedral Catholic (CA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-5-13 - Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (CA) - One of the youngest players in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-4” southpaw is an alumni of Team USA Baseball and is very polished on the mound. His fastball sits in the low 90s, and both his curveball and change-up are solid offerings. He has great control of his pitches and dominated at The Tournament of Stars, striking out seven over three scoreless innings. He had a 1.18 ERA and 80 K/25 BB over 53.1 innings as a junior for a team that included 2013 fourth-round pick Stephen Gonsalves. Committed to UCLA. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/prep-arms-chicago-cubs/34856#Vp7zJ4JvRevfV1fR.99

7-24-13  -  5. Brady Aiken, lhp/of, Cathedral Catholic, San Diego/San Diego Show - At 6-foot-4, 205 pounds with broad shoulders and room to carry more weight, Aiken has an ideal pitcher’s build. He has a quick arm, clean arm action and hides the ball well from a high three-quarters arm slot. His fastball sits 89-92 mph and will touch 93 with downhill plane. Aiken has a curveball with tight 1-to-7 rotation, making it one of the best breaking balls in the class at its best. His low-80s with fade changeup shows the makings of an above-average offering. Aiken repeats his fluid delivery well and has good control. He is a two-way player as an outfielder. Aiken, a UCLA commit, is young for the class and will be 17 on draft day. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 29. Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (CA) - 6'4/210, Draft Day Age: 17.81, UCLA commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Aiken has been scouted a lot, coming from a top program as mentioned above and is a big lefty among the youngest in the class, so there's a lot to like. His stuff is more average now, working 88-92 with a solid curveball and changeup but the feel to pitch is good and he's not a bad prospect as a right fielder with good athleticism, some power and a plus arm http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-11-14 - Jeff Sullivan ‏@JSully12 - Brady Aiken - LHP, Cathedral Catholic (CA) HS sitting 91-92, touched 93

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 31. Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (CA) - One of the youngest players in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-4” southpaw is an alumni of Team USA Baseball and is very polished on the mound. Committed to UCLA. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-16-13 - 11th All-American Classic - Brady Aiken (LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (San Diego, CA): Excellent size; major-league body; high three-quarters slot with a high front side; deliberate with the leg lift and plant; pretty easy and repeatable; pace was inconsistent and he struggled with runners on; slow release around 1.50 seconds to plate with runners on; fastball comfortable at 91-92 with some sink; long, tumbling curve at 73-74; good feel for the offering; fastball command limited the pitch. —Jason Parks http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21537

8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 6. Brady Aiken, lhp, Cathedral Catholic, San Diego/San Diego Show - A 6-foot-3, 207-pound lefthander with broad shoulders, a trim waist and long legs, the athletic Aiken has a projectable pitcher’s build. His fastball sat 87-91 mph from a high three-quarter arm slot. The UCLA commit has a 71-75 mph curveball with 1-7 tilt that is one of the better breaking balls in the class. Aiken threw three innings in Long Beach, allowing one hit and striking out eight. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

8-31-13 – Area Code Games - Brady Aiken (LHP) 6’4″ 205; 2014 Large frame w/strong, athletic build. Exceptional athlete also plays CF. Good projection body that looks the part on the mound. Simple delivery remains online for pinpoint command. Loose HTQ arm uses present 5/future 6FB w/future 60 command. Lives on top of BB w/confident arm side spot and downplane. Late breaking CB w/12:6 shape. Advanced feel for CH sells with same arm speed and tumbling effect; misses bats. Finishes all his pitches and lives down in the zone. Showed mound savvy where game came very EZ for him. Strong follow; 3-pitch mix starter material.  http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/31/area-code-notes/

9-1-13 - Jim Callis – 9. Brady Aiken, lhp/of, Cathedral Catholic HS, San Diego - Projectable athlete could have three plus pitches in time, reminds me of Trey Ball at same stage.

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 16 –  LHP Brady Aiken – Cathedral Catholic (CA) HS – 6-4 frame, Aiken is going to be a great major league pitcher. Had a great summer at the 11th All-American Classic and the Area Code Games. Every scout was wowed by his control… 91-92 fastball… 73-74 curve. He also will be one of the youngest players in the 2014 draft. Could easily wind up a top 10 pick.

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 4.)LHP, Brady Aiken, Cathedral Catholic HS, Cardiff by the Sea, CA, 6'3 1/2 205, nice frame, long arms and legs, upper 3/4 arm slot has improved 2-3 mph on his fb and sharp downer type cb, most fb were 89-90, touched 93 a few times, cb nice bite and rotation which enticed hitters to chase, some deception, pitched up in zone rushing himself a few times, something here to work with, top 25 candidate for 2014 for sure, keep an eye on him, UCLA commit?  http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 30. Boston Red Sox — Brady Aiken, RHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (CA) One of the youngest players in the 2014 MLB draft, the 6’-4” southpaw is an alumni of Team USA Baseball and is very polished on the mound. His fastball sits in the low 90s, and both his curveball and change-up are solid offerings. He has great control of his pitches and dominated at The Tournament of Stars, striking out seven over three scoreless innings. He then earned the win in the gold medal game against Japan at the World Cup Championships in Taiwan, striking out 10 over seven innings, allowing just one run. He had a 1.18 ERA and 80 K/25 BB over 53.1 innings as a junior for a team that included 2013 fourth-round pick Stephen Gonsalves. Committed to UCLA. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

11-14-13 - Michael Schwartze - Arms Dominate Class One of the biggest strengths of this year’s class is the quality and depth of frontline starting pitching. After the summer, it appears as if as many as 10 high school pitchers could go in the first round. The top prep lefty in the class may be Brady Aiken (Cathedral Catholic/San Diego, Calif.) who had a dominant summer while showing great stuff, including a low-90s fastball, improving curveball and an advanced changeup. He has a smooth, low effort delivery and a projectable, 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame. He commanded both secondary offerings well and both project as swing-and-miss offerings. http://www.studentsports.com/blog/2013/11/13/baseball-jupiter-wraps-up-2013-showcase-circuit/

11-21-13 -  Nathan Rode ‏@NathanRode  -  No. 4 Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS, CA. UCLA recruit. Projectable w/ more velo to come. Good secondary

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 4 Brady Aiken LHP L/L 6-3 207 Cathedral Catholic, San Diego UCLA http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 6. Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (CA) - Maybe the most polished prep pitcher available, the 6’-4” southpaw is an alumni of Team USA Baseball and was the winning pitcher in the gold medal game against Japan in the World Cup Championship in Taiwan, allowing just one run over seven innings, striking out 10. His fastball sits in the low 90s, and both his curveball and change-up are above-average offerings with still room for more. He has great control of his pitches and dominated at The Tournament of Stars, striking out seven over three scoreless innings. Still has projection left and room for more velocity. Committed to UCLA. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  9- LHP Brady Aiken Cathedral Catholic HS (UCLA Commit) 8/16/96- He is going to be 17 at the time of the draft, which is impressive considering many kids with his birthday, would be going into their junior year. The top high school lefty in the country working with 3 solid, not spectacular, pitches. He turns a lot of heads with his overall athleticism. He would be a potential 2-way player if he were to go to UCLA. He has a very deliberate arm and was 88-91 at PG national last June. He showed a change at 83 and a mid 70’s curve. (Blue Jays @ 9) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

4.       Kodi Medeiros

6-13-13 - Todd Gold‏ @TGold_PG  - In 2nd IP 2014 LHP Kodi Medeiros (Hilo, HI) flashed couple quality changeups @ 80 & 82 after bumping 94 in 1st. at PG National

6-13-13 - Todd Gold‏ @TGold_PG - 2014 LHP Kodi Medeiros (Hilo, HI) is sitting 90-92, touched 94 from low 3/4 slot with + tailing life, good 80 mph frisbee SL

7-2-13 - 25. Kodi Medeiros- LHP, Waiakea (HI) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 23. Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Waiakea HS (HI) - 6'0/180, Draft Day Age: 18.03, No college commitment - Quick Take: Medeiros is the best high school prospect from Hawaii in some times and really turned heads at the June's PG National in Minnesota, sitting 90-93 and hitting 94 with an above average to plus 78-80 mph breaking ball. He's unique and sure to be polarizing this spring: young for the class and athletic with an easy delivery but is undersized and throws from a low three quarters angle with nascent feel for a changeup. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-12-13 - Gichael Mettys ‏@Michaelgettys3  - The Hawaiian lefty (Kodi Medeiros) I faced was the best pitcher I've ever seen. Side arm, lefty, 94mph and the ball was moving like a snake! #nasty

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 17. Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Waiakea HS (HI) - Medeiros was the talk of the PG Classic. Some people described his stuff as filthy, nasty and some players tweeted he had some of the best stuff they have ever seen. He hit 95 mph with his fastball and added a nasty, filthy slider that sat in the low 80s. What really makes him nasty and filthy, however, is his delivery. He throws from low three-quarters — almost sidearm. You don’t see a lot of sidearm, frontline starters in the majors so it will be interesting to watch him his senior season.  Also, at 6’-0” and 185 pounds, his size may limit his upside. Nonetheless, he established himself as one of the most exciting players in the country. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego - Kodi Medeiros (Waikaea High School, Hawaii.) was very impressive with a low 90′s fastball and a slider that will give left-handed hitters fits, but the arm slot screams reliever.  http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

8-16-13 - 11th All-American Classic - Kodi Medeiros | LHP | Waiakea (Hilo, HI)  Height/Weight: 6 feet/185 pounds  B/T: L/L  Draft Day Age: 18 years, 0 months  Commitment: N/A  Scouting Notes: Impressive; deception pitcher with stuff but not a gimmick guy; worked from extreme low three-quarters slot—basically a sidearmer; fastball worked 93-94 with plus movement; ball was diving under barrels; upper-70s to low-80s slider was filthy; fastball disguise and pure funk on the late two-plane break; showed mid-80s changeup as well; curious to see if he can hold velo and command the fastball to both sides of the plate; can’t wait to see him this spring.  http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21537

8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 5. Kodi Medeiros, lhp, Waiakea, Hilo, Hawaii/Big Island Wood Bat League - The 6-foot-1, 191-pound Medeiros has a compact, muscular build with broad, sloped shoulders, a wide chest and strong lower half. He is one of the most interesting players in the class because although he is unconventional and he comes from a remote location, his stuff is electric. Medeiros has a leg kick that pushes toward center field, and his arm path is high in the back with a whip-like action before releasing at a slot just above sidearm. This angle gives all of his pitches tremendous movement. His 90-92 mph fastball that touched 93 has at least plus armside run and sink. Hitters were unable to lift the ball out of the infield in his two innings. His upper-70s slider is a plus pitch with abrupt movement, 3-to-7 lateral tilt and power. Medeiros also mixes in a 78-80 changeup with lots of armside fade that has above-average potential. He is currently uncommitted and will choose between Pepperdine, Oregon, Arizona and UCLA in the fall. If Medeiros is drafted in the first round, he will be the highest drafted Hawaiian high schooler ever, a title currently held by Bronson Sardinha, who was drafted 34th overall in the 2001 supplemental first round. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 26 – LHP Kodi Medeiros - Waiakea (HI) HS – No one has come out of nowhere quicker this summer than Medeiros, who turned heads at June's PG National in Minnesota. Scouts said his stuff was ‘absolutely filthy’, aided by his strange deliver. FB: 90-93, 94… 78-80 breaking ball… throws from low three-quarters — almost sidearm.

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 31. St. Louis Cardinals — Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Waiakea HS (HI) Medeiros was the talk of the PG Classic. Some people described his stuff as filthy, nasty and some players tweeted he had some of the best stuff they have ever seen. He hit 95 mph with his fastball and added a nasty, filthy slider that sat in the low 80s. What really makes him nasty and filthy, however, is his delivery. 10-15-13 – Baseball America - 30. Kodi Medeiros, lhp, Waiakea HS, Hilo, Hawaii: With a lively fastball up to 95 mph and a power slider, Medeiros pairs electric stuff with an unconventional low slot. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 5. Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Ohio Warhawks (Waiakea High, Hilo, Hawaii/Pepperdine) -  Compact lefty has outstanding movement on his pitches, has hit 95 mph with his fastball. http://ht.ly/qi5No

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Kodi Medeiros (2014 LHP, Ohio Warhawks) - Medeiros' start against Chandler Baseball was the main event of amateur baseball's main event. Hundreds of golf carts created a wall four plus rows deep behind the plate to get a glimpse at the 2014 class' most intrguiging prospect. The native of Hilo, a town of aprox. 45,000 on Hawaii's big island, was relatively unknown on the national scene prior to taking the mound at the PG National Showcase in June. His electric stuff took the scouting community by surprise and he continued to impress throughout the summer in one and two inning stints at the Area Code Games and PG All-American Classic. But with his small frame, unorthodox delivery and short track record there has been an ongoing debate amongst scouts as to whether he can maintain his high level stuff through the physical rigors of a role in the starting rotation. Simply put; there has never been a prospect quite like Medeiros. That fact should be viewed as a huge positive, though the lack of a viable comp does make him somewhat more difficult to evaluate. His fastball sits comfortably in the 90-92 range and has peaked as high as 95, but more than the velocity, his fastball features plus movement and life, seemingly accelerating after leaving his hand and darts hard to the arm side with sink. He has shown some feel for locating his fastball on the corners, which is impressive considering it's depth of run. His slider has plus bite and depth, but is a pitch that he's still developing feel for. This should come as no surprise given that very few catchers at this level are able to handle the pitch because of it's devastating late bite and huge depth. Subsequently, he is unable to use it with two strikes or a runner on third in game situations. With high-level catching, Medeiros will have an opportunity to develop better feel for using the pitch in-game situations and begin to realize the pitch's 80-grade potential. His changeup was inconsistent in his previous outings, flashing plus at the PG National before betraying him at the Area Code Games and in the PG All-American Classic. With that in mind he made a point to show it off in Jupiter and with very go od results, locating the first three for strikes. In Jupiter his changeup caused several ugly swings, and several of them were legitimate plus offerings, though he still has work to do to improve his consistency with it. His three inning outing was a Rorshach for scouts, as those who view him as a starter will point to his six pitch first inning and quality of changeup, while those who see a future in the bullpen will fixate on his velocity dipping to 88-90 in the third inning. Regardless of his future role, Medeiros is a special talent who has a chance to be among the best pitchers in baseball in that role, should he manage to stay healthy going forward and continue to develop. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 5  -   Kodi Medeiros LHP OF, 1B 6-0 185 L L Waiakea Hilo HI  Pepperdine Big League  -  Can flat out pitch! Unhittable and up to 95 at PG AA. Excellent breaking ball. Impressed at WWBA World Championship http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-14-13 - Michael Schwartze - Other top left-handers include Kodi Medeiros (Waiakea/Hilo, Hawaii). Medeiros was one of the hottest names this summer, jumping onto the scene at the Area Codes and showing some of the best overall stuff. He touched the mid-90s with a fastball that has plus armside run created by a low arm slot. He also throws a plus slider but the arm slot, size — he’s listed at 6-feet and 185 pounds — and lack of a changeup suggest reliever long term. Things can and will change in terms of who’s who in the draft class, and those changes will occur all spring, sometimes week-to-week and even day-to-day. While we never know what a high school talent is going to be, exactly, we’ll begin the 2014 season with a group of talents that rival that of any prep class in recent memory. - : http://www.studentsports.com/blog/2013/11/13/baseball-jupiter-wraps-up-2013-showcase-circuit/#sthash.RNSqqZZm.dpuf

12-8-13 – Kodi Medeiros is a short, lean lefty at around 6' and 185 LBS. The first time I saw I him I thought he had a nice swing and could be a decent OF prospect if he could run and he had an athletic frame that looked like it could be a reasonable expectation. His actions at the plate reminded me a bit of Johnny Damon. Worth watching more of, for sure but then I saw him pitch. That resolved any thought of me seeing more of him at the plate. He could get out big leaguers right now and I'm not exaggerating. His fastball is 90-93 touching 94 but that's just the appetizer. It has run in on lefties like a screwball. It fades away from righties. You can see lefties bail as it attacks them making it impossible to hit well with any frequency. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/12/8/5181602/2014-mlb-draft-profile-kodi-medeiros-lhp-hilo-hi-high-school

B/R – 11-21-13 - 20. Washington Nationals: Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Waiakea HS (Hawaii) - Hailing from Hawaii, Kodi Medeiros seemingly has already emerged as this year’s polarizing high school left-hander. One of the younger players in the class—he turns 18 shortly after the draft—the 6’0”, 180-pound left-hander lacks physical projection. Working from a unique low-three-quarters arm slot, Medeiros has some life to his fastball at 90-94 mph, and it tends to jump on opposing hitters due to his release point and smooth delivery. His breaking ball is nasty with huge horizontal break capable of deceiving hitters and missing bats at any level. The southpaw has a changeup, but it’s a raw pitch that will need to be developed thoroughly as a professional.  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 15. Kodi Medeiros, LHP, Waiakea HS, (HI) - With two plus pitches already in his back pocket, the southpaw who throws from a low-three quarters slot has some of the filthiest stuff in the country — just ask anyone who faced him this year. His fastball can touch 96 mph with late movement and life and his slider is nasty and wipes out lefties. You don’t see many sidearm starters in the majors so it will be interesting to watch his development. Also, at 6’-0” and 185 pounds, his projection is limited. Still, he has established himself as one of best arms available in the 2014 MLB draft. Committed to Pepperdine. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  20- LHP Kodi Medeiros Waikeka HS (Pepperdine Commit) Having seen him pitch twice this year I can say he is one of the most fun HS arms to watch in person. He has an advanced feel for his change and excellent command of 3 pitches. The Hawaiian southpaw is a relentless worker and has plenty of upside as a future mid rotation guy.(Rangers @ 22) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

5.       Sean Newcomb

6-9-13  -  11.Sean Newcomb, LHP (Hartford): Will be the highest pick out of the America East Conference since Travis Jankowski, and might just go higher (he went 44th). Newcomb struck out 92 in 72 IP, posting a 2.81 FIP with his mid 90s fastball. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

6-13-13  -  8. Los Angeles Dodgers — Sean Newcomb, LHP, Hartford - The 6’-5”, 240 pound southpaw was among the leaders in K/9 with a 11.5 mark this season thanks to a fastball that can touch 95 mph. Over 13 starts, he had a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 92 K/37 BB over 72 innings while holding hitters to a .213 batting average. With increased improvement on his command, as well as secondary stuff, he should be a big name to watch next year. http://beforeitsnews.com/sports/2013/06/2014-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-no-time-like-the-present-2513748.html?currentSplittedPage=2

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 8. Sean Newcomb, LHP, Hartford - The 6’-5”, 240-pound southpaw was among the leaders in K/9 with a 11.5 mark this season thanks to a fastball that can touch 95 mph. Over 13 starts, he had a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 92 K/37 BB over 72 innings while holding hitters to a .213 batting average. 9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League - Sean Newcomb 6-5/240, Wareham Gatemen 22.1 IP, 28 K, 4.43 ERA: FB 88-94 CB 69 SL 76-79 CH 81-83 -  Spent most of the summer recovering from illness, and this led to some inconsistency (high ERA). Newcomb is a big lefty that uses little effort to throw in the mid-90s, with a lot of late dive. Most importantly, he improved every time I saw him pitch. http://bullpenbanter.com/2013-all-cape-team-pitchers/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 8. Colorado Rockies — Sean Newcomb, LHP, Hartford  The 6’-5”, 240-pound southpaw was among the leaders in K/9 with a 11.5 mark this season thanks to a fastball that can touch 95 mph. Over 13 starts, he had a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 92 K/37 BB over 72 innings while holding hitters to a .213 batting average. 10-15-13 – Baseball America - 19. Sean Newcomb, lhp, Hartford: Breakout Cape Cod League performer has a durable 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame, and he flashes a four-pitch mix with mid-90s heat. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-31-13 – TTF – Sean Newcomb shows a plus fastball that tops out at 96. He also features a cutter/slider, and a curveball. He’s also known to mix in a changeup. Not surprisingly, the fastball is easily his best pitch. The cutter/slider is solid. Improved command of his secondary pitches is a big key for Newcomb’s continued development. Mechanically, Newcomb features a relatively low effort delivery. He shows good arm speed, but occasionally struggles with maintaining his release point. He throws from a natural 3/4 arm slot, with clean, rather than whippy arm action. Pitchers are always injury risks to some extent, but Newcomb’s delivery doesn’t contain any red flags. At 6’5, he should get good downward plane, though he sometimes gets too low on his back leg, causing him to leave pitches up in the zone. Using an abbreviated leg lift, his mechanics stay consistent from the stretch. Sean Newcomb has the size and fastball velocity that teams covet.  In terms of delivery and frame, he is drawing comparisons to Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester. Everything he has shown so far indicates he will continue to improve. With a solid junior year, he could go within the top twenty picks of the 2014 draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-sean-newcomb/39495#JdMvtKL1EPdg1xCE.99

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 3. Sean Newcomb / LHP / Hartford – Newcomb will get comparisons to Sean Manaea as a left-handed starter who popped this summer and will face inferior competition this spring, but as a southpaw with good size (6-5, 240) a fastball that has touched 97 and an above-average slider and average change, he’s got a chance to put himself into top 10 considerations. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

11-27-13 – Big League Futures Top 25 Poll –  10 Sean Newcombe    LHP Hartford http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/11/26/mlb-draft-top-25-prospects-poll/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 11. Toronto Blue Jays*: Sean Newcomb, LHP, Hartford - There’s a lot to like about Sean Newcomb. He’s a 6’5”, 240-pound left-hander with plus fastball velocity and a potential four-pitch mix. His fastball registers in the 90-94 mph range and bumps 95-96, and there’s reason to believe he’s going to naturally add a few ticks as a professional. Newcomb’s curveball is currently his best secondary offering, though some problems with his mechanics prevent the southpaw from throwing it with consistency. The same goes for his changeup and slider, both of which will require considerable refinement at the next level. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  12- LHP Sean Newcomb Hartford 6/12/93- He looks to be the 2nd ever Hartford player to go in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft (Jeff Bagwell, the other) He seems like a pretty safe bet to make that happen too with his mid 90’s fastball and very good slider. 6.       Mac Marshall

7-2-13 - 18. Mac Marshall- LHP, Parkview (GA) HS -  6’2, 185 LHP sat 93-94 at the National Showcase and really knows how to pitch http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-5-13 - Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA) - One of the better southpaws in the 2014 MLB draft, Marshall’s fastball sits in the low/mid-90s and he has worked hard on his delivery and command over the past year. He also flashed a potential plus curveball at the Perfect Game Nationals. At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. As a junior, he had 80 K/32 BB over 46 innings for one of the premiere programs in the country. Committed to Georgia. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/prep-arms-chicago-cubs/34856#Vp7zJ4JvRevfV1fR.99

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 14. Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA) - 6'2/185, Draft Day Age: 18.36, LSU commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Marshall comes from a powerhouse Atlanta-area program that's produced RF Jeff Francoeur and first rounders in the past two years, 1B Matt Olson (Athletics) and CF Josh Hart (Orioles). Marshall sits 90-92 and has hit 94 mph with his fastball while his off-speed pitches are inconsistent but his 75-79 mph downer curveball and 79-82 mph changeup are both above average at times with potential for more. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

8-6-13 - Top pitchers - East Coast Professional Showcase, Syracuse, NY -  2. Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (Ga.): Marshall had suffered a minor oblique injury at the Perfect Game showcase in Minneapolis, so this was his first time back on the mound. He clocked 90-92 mph, but typically throws much faster. But Marshall commanded his breaking stuff well and was very efficient. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130806&content_id=56048786&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 11. Mac Marshall – LHP, Parkview (GA) HS - 6’2, 185 LHP who sat 90-91, touched 92 and featured an outstanding curveball. Really knows how to pitch and ran it up to 94 at National Showcase. http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 25. Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA) - One of the better southpaws in the 2014 MLB draft, Marshall’s fastball sits in the low/mid-90s and he has worked hard on his delivery and command over the past year. He also flashed a potential plus curveball at the Perfect Game Nationals. At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. 8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego - Mac Marshall (Parkview High School, Ga.) was 91-93, but the breaking-ball left a ton to be desired (scouts tell me it’s been inconsistent all year). http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 7. Mac Marshall, lhp, Parkview, Lilburn, Ga./Team Elite - At 6-foot, 187-pounds, Marshall has an athletic, angular build. Marshall offers athleticism, some present polish and projection. He gets downhill plane from a high three-quarter arm slot and sat 89-91 mph his fastball, which was up to 94 earlier in the summer. Marshall has feel for a high-70s changeup with fade that has the makings of an above-average offering and has shown the ability to spin a mid-70s curveball with 1-to-7 tilt. Originally committed to Georgia, where both of his parents attended, Marshall changed his commitment to Louisiana State lasted month. He attends the school that entered the 2013 season as No. 1 on the Baseball America High School Top 25, Parkview, which produced a 2013 first-rounder, outfielder Josh Hart, and a 2012 supplemental first-rounder in first baseman Matt Olson. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 25. Los Angeles Dodgers — Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA)  One of the better southpaws in the 2014 MLB draft, Marshall’s fastball sits in the low/mid-90s and he has worked hard on his delivery and command over the past year. He also flashed a potential plus curveball at the Perfect Game Nationals. At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. 9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 21.)LHP, Mac Marshall, 2014, Parkview HS, Georgia, was up to 88 with FB only 16 years old, loose with decent delivery, fb pretty true for most part, a bit long with delivery, but worth a follow next couple of years. Added a couple more mph to his FB in 2013 and was one of most exposed lefties over the summer showcase seen. Sharp break on a downer type wipe out slider/curve and makings of solid change up. Great upside!! http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 15. Mac Marshall, lhp, Parkview HS, LiLburn, Ga.: Athletic lefthander with a low-90s fastball that touches 94 mph, a plus changeup and emerging curveball. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. 12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  26- LHP Mac Marshall Parkview HS (LSU Commit) 1/27/96- His HS has become a must stop for cross checkers the last 3 years with former first rounder’s Matt Olson and Josh Hart playing there. He comes in fast on hitters because of the drive in his delivery. He works with 3 pitches and has a change up that he uses a lot. A low 90’s guy now, Marshall is easy to dream on as a future #2 or 3 SP in the big leagues. (Dodgers @ 25) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

7.       Justus Sheffield

6-13-13 - When brother Jordan went down with an elbow injury, Justus Sheffield carried much of the load for Tullahoma while leading the team to the state tournament. Bigger than his brother at 6-foot-0, 190 pounds, Sheffield throws in the low 90s. The nephew of former major league All-Star Gary Sheffield http://www.maxpreps.com/news/article.aspx?articleid=7c0ad513-b5e1-4ac1-b57e-8dedcc72c783&page=5

7-2-13 -  33. Justus Sheffield- LHP, Tullahoma (TN) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  10. Justus Sheffield, lhp, Tullahoma (Tenn.)/Ohio Warhawks - Sheffield is a year younger than his brother, Jordan, who entered the spring as one of the top high school pitchers and was up to 97 mph before having Tommy John surgery in April. Both brothers are committed to Vanderbilt. Justus Sheffield has a strong, compact 6-foot, 190-pound build and has gotten a little leaner in the last year. His fastball can sit in the 90-92 mph in shorter stints and was up to 94 in the spring. He has an athletic delivery that features a high leg kick and throws from a three-quarter slot. His mid-70s changeup with fade could become an above-average pitch. Sheffield also throws a 75-78 mph breaking ball with three-quarter tilt. A good athlete, Sheffield has also shown potential in center field. Young for the class, Sheffield will turn 18 just prior to the draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

7-25-13 – Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft - 25. Justus Sheffield, LHP, Tullahoma HS (TN) - 6'0/185, Draft Day Age: 18.06, Vanderbilt commit, Full Report & Video - Quick Take: Sheffield is very well-known as he worked 90-94 mph in a heavily-scouted outing last October in the same game that his older brother RHP Jordan (Red Sox draftee will be a freshman at Vandy this year) used as his coming out party, hitting 98 mph in relief of his little brother. Justus' upside is limited by his size but he's athletic with advanced command, typically working 89-92 mph with an above average 78-80 mph changeup and a solid average breaking ball. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1310090.html

7-31-13 - Clint Longenecker ‏@Clint_BA  - Justus Sheffield (TN) 90-91, t93 with low-80s sl, 75-78 ch and low-70s cb

8-6-13 - Top pitchers - East Coast Professional Showcase, Syracuse, NY -  7. Justus Sheffield, LHP, Tullahoma HS (Tenn.): Sheffield could have been higher up on this list, perhaps hurt slightly because he more or less threw the way people have come to expect. There's also the fact that he is a bit undersized, albeit while throwing left-handed. Sheffield reached 94 mph in this event, but some feel he needs a tighter breaking ball. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130806&content_id=56048786&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 9. Justus Sheffield – LHP, Tullahoma (TN) HS - LHP sat 92-94 and has the makings of three potential plus pitches http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 49. Justus Sheffield, LHP, Tullahoma HS (TN) - Much like his older brother Jordan, who was considered first-round material until Tommy John surgery all but made him honor his commitment to Vanderbilt, Justus has a plus fastball that can touch 94 mph. The 6’-0” southpaw is a great athlete and also adds an above-average, mid-70s change, as well as a mid-70s curve that still needs refining. Committed to Vanderbilt. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-13-13 - The Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego - Justus Sheffield (Tullahoma High School, Tenn.) has a quick arm and showed a better feel for pitching than I saw over his junior year, but at 6’0″ 185 there is only so much upside in his left arm. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/08/thoughts-on-perfect-game-all-american-classic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

8-16-13 - 11th All-American Classic - Justus Sheffield (LHP, Tullahoma HS (Tullahoma, TN)): Four-pitch lefty who continues to impress—showed all four pitches despite facing two batters; fastball worked in the low 90s; low-80s slider; low-70s curve; low-80s change; all pitches in line with his previous summer showings; advanced feel and pitchability; works the quadrants and already shows understanding of sequencing; repeatable motion and solid arm action; high-level follow, Day 1 candidate; Vandy commit. —Nick J. Faleris http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21537

8-21-13 - Todd Gold ‏@TGold_PG  - 2014 LHP Justus Sheffield (Tullahoma, TN) just had 2 very impressive IP. K'd first 5, spotted up glove side very well, up to 92.

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 19.)LHP, Justus Sheffield, Tullahoma HS, Tullahoma TN, 5'11 180 L/L, saw him last year, seemed like the same guy but was within himself more for 5 innings, didn't rush as much as last year, fb velo same, 88-92, most were 88-89 with some life middle out vs RHH, sharp cb at times, not great command of it yet, but it has nasty action when he leads with elbow, all pitches from 3/4 slot, needs to stay compact in delivery, move to 1b is fair, work to be done still, good looking lefty for 2014 for sure, Vandy commit? Brother had arm blowout during 2013 season, Justus has had time to think and being a lefty, a premium spot out of HS, only has added value, plus he's got two solid average pitches and has improved his command over his 2012 performance. Still a bit eratic, but he's young and loves the game! http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 38. Justus Sheffield, lhp, Tullahoma (Tenn.) HS: He offers a fastball up to 95 mph, above-average breaking ball/changeup combo and the ability to throw strikes. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  41- LHP Justus Sheffield Tullahoma HS (Vanderbilt Commit) 5/13/96- The younger brother of 2013 Red Sox draft pick Jordan. Justus is a strike-throwing machine who already has 2 quality secondary pitches. He uses both well and works them around his low 90’s heat. (Out of first round- Reds selection) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

8.       Dave Peterson

6-9-13 -  23.David Peterson, LHP (Colorado HS): Probably the best lefty available in the high school ranks. At 6’7″, 210 lbs. with a fastball just touching 90 mph, he still has plenty of room for projection. http://www.minorleaguerundown.com/2013/06/09/2014-mlb-draft-top-30-prospects/

7-2-13 -  88. David Peterson- LHP, Regis Jesuit (CO) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  David Peterson, lhp, Regis Jesuit, Denver/FTB - Colorado has a strong lineage of big, projectable high school pitchers and Peterson is next in line. With broad shoulders and long arms and legs, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound Oregon commit fits the description. Peterson has an easy delivery and hides the ball well from a tick below three-quarter arm slot. His velocity sat in the upper-80s and touched 91 mph with above-average movement. Both his mid-70s curveball and 78-79 mph changeup are in the developmental stages but show promise. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

8-14-13 - Regis Jesuit senior left-handed pitcher David Peterson tossed a scoreless inning for the West in its 8-6 victory over the East in the 2013 Perfect Game All-American Classic Aug. 11 at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. Regis Jesuit’s David Peterson, a member of the 2013 Aurora Sentinel All-City Baseball Team poses, June 17, 2013, at Regis Jesuit High School. (Marla R. Keown/Aurora Sentinel)+ Peterson — who reached as high as 92 mph on the radar gun — finished a perfect inning with a strikeout to help the West win the showcase game featuring 51 of the best prep players from across the country. - See more at: http://www.aurorasentinel.com/sports/preps/baseball-peterson-strong-in-san-diego-regis-jesuit-hires-matt-darr/#sthash.H40fvxMI.dpuf

8-25-13 - Minor League Rundown ‏@MiLBRundown  - David Peterson looking solid. Good velo, curve for lefty

8-29-13 - Player:  David Peterson   Primary Position:  LHP  Secondary Position(s):  1B  Height/Weight:  6’6/220  Bats/Throws:  L/L  Home Town:  Denve. CO  School:  Regis Jesuit  Class of:  2014  Committed To:  Oregon  Scouting Notes:  2013 Tournament of Stars Notes from Don Olsen  - David is a long, lean, loose projectable arm with present arm speed in a Tyler Skaggs type mold.  He hides the ball well in a nice ¾ slot, angle is tough to pick up with his long arms and lateral two way plane.  David shows a bit of big man mechanics that could use minor ironing, but good arm action.  Fastball has a lot of life on it, 89-90 mph, with a bit more left in the tank.  Curve has a slurve type feel, 76-77 mph, and can be tough on LHH to square up.  He flashes a straight or split change that has a little depth and is projectable offering. Frame and ability are highly enticing; with a good chance for three pitch mix. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/28/2014-mlb-draft-profile-david-peterson/

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 38. David Peterson, LHP, Regis Jesuit HS (CO) - Like Destino, Peterson is a big southpaw (6′-6″, 215 pounds) with an easy delivery. his fastball sits in the 88-92 mph range and his curveball has plus potential. He offers a classic three-pitch mix and has a good feel for pitching. Committed to Oregon. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

9.       Philip Pfeifer

5-23-13 - Philip Pfeifer, LHP, Vanderbilt - In high school, Pfeifer went 46-4 with 465 strikeouts and won four state titles for Farragut HS in Tennessee. He wasn’t drafted until the 44th round because everyone knew he was going to Vanderbilt. Over 16.2 innings as a freshman, he had a 3.24 ERA and 8 K/9 BB. The 6’-1”, 190-pound left-hander made a relief appearance on February 16 against Long Beach State, allowing one unearned run on three hits over 1.1 innings. Since then, he has made three starts and has been brilliant for the third-ranked Commodores. Over 18.2 innings, he has allowed one run on nine hits, striking out 23 to eight walks. Your prototypical “crafty” southpaw, what he lacks in velocity, he makes up for in command and ability to mix his pitches well. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft/29840#DWT4fu7C2Dic4cKl.99

10.   Tyler Nurdin

Sophomore lefty Tyler Nurdin (4-3, 1.83) was hampered by turf toe for much of the season but threw a complete-game shutout in his final regular-season start, and he has learned to command a solid four-pitch mix (5-29-13) – LINK

11.   Scott Squier

6-22-13  -  Player:  Scott Squier   Position:  LHP   School:  Hawaii   Date of Birth:  9/17/1992   Height/Weight:  6’6   Bats/Throws:  R/L   2014 Class:  College Junior   Previously Drafted:  2011, 21st rd, Tigers Scouting Report:  from Don Olsen on 6/18/2013 - Tall and narrow frame, little touch of overall development, comes across in the Chris Sale mold. Fastball 89- 92 (93) mph works with natural tail in the arm slot, shows some sink in the offering.  Slider with more horizontal tilt than vertical and shows the bite that can induce swing/miss offering, grade at above average with some room to grow.  Change up flashes, but needs to grow in order to round out into a solid three pitch mix.  He throws mainly from a natural ¾ slot, but the arm leaks a fair amount of times into a sidearm slot angle might place into bullpen role, some teams do not see this as an issue into role.  The FB/SL combo can ride hard on both sides that logical to fit into a back of the bullpen role, if the change up fails to develop. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/06/20/2014-mlb-draft-profile-scott-squier/

12.   Carson Sands

6-13-13 - Carson Sands, North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.), Pitcher Sands has already experienced national competition as a member of Team USA 18U, which won the gold medal last year. He posted a 7-2 record with 81 strikeouts and a 1.28 ERA in 54.2 innings pitched. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/article.aspx?articleid=7c0ad513-b5e1-4ac1-b57e-8dedcc72c783&page=9

7-24-13  -  Carson Sands, lhp, North Florida Christian, Tallahassee, Fla./Orlando Scorpions - Sands was one of two underclassmen to make the 18U team last summer. A large frame, broad shoulders and strong lower half, give the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Sands a projectable body with room to fill out. The Florida State commit sits 88-91 mph and touches 92 with natural cut due to his long arm action. He has feel for a 77-78 mph changeup with fade and deceptive arm speed that flashes average. His mid-70s breaking ball shows two-plane break and depth at its best but is inconsistent. The 18-year-old gets downhill plane from an arm slot above three-quarters. Carson’s young brother Cole, a rising junior with a 90-91 mph fastball, also attended TOS and is one of the top arms in the 2015 class. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 42. Carson Sands, LHP, N. Florida Christian HS (FL) - The 6’-3”, 215-pound southpaw has a low-90s fastball with arm-side run and there is still room for more velocity as he matures. He has great mound presence and looks like a polished pro. He also shows two solid secondaries in a change-up and curveball. His command gets him in trouble at times, but all of the ingredients are there. An alumni of Team USA Baseball, he has played against the best competition. Flashed a 73 mph  CB twice

15.   Bennett Sousa

7-2-13 - 63. Bennett Sousa- LHP, The Benjamin School (FL) http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-15-13 - Perfect Game USA ‏@PerfectGameUSA  8 Jul  - 2014 LHP and Virginia commit Bennett Sousa up to 93 mph for the Florida Burn today! #PGTourney

8-8-13 - Nathan Rode ‏@NathanRode  -  LHP Bennett Sousa (FL) looked solid in 3 IP. 90-91 in first 2, then high 80s. Threw strikes. 3rd inning a lite shaky. 74-77 CB flashed bite.

8-10-13 - New Balance Area Code games - Bennett Sousa (FL) started for the Yankees and stood out the most among their arms that went. He threw from a ¾ arm slot and generated good side arm run with his 89-91 MPH fastball. He did a solid job commanding the pitch and keeping it down in the zone. In the second, his fastball was more 87-89 MPH. He also showed a good feel for a 74-78 MPH curveball that had solid shape and hard bite at times. http://prospectinsider.com/view/2013-area-codes:-day-4-notes/

16.   Cody Reed

7-16-13 - 2013 Tournament of Stars notes from Don Olsen: - Cody Reed has the ideal frame, good proportional development. He offers a little bit of projection in the Jim Deshaies mold.  He throws from a ¾ slot with okay arm speed that shows natural tail on the arsenal.  Fastball was 88-90 (91) mph and has the ability to work both sides, willing to pound in on all hitters.  There is a bit of hop in the offering, as he hides the ball and makes it tough to pick up out of the hand.  The curve was 72-75 mph, showing more of slurve feel from his slot.  The offering has spin with depth; it should round out into a useable offering, maybe above average.  The change was 81-82 mph, showed a bit of deception, nice fade with enough two way action that it could provide a bit of swing/miss. Minor ironing in repeating his release as he pushes the ball hand side a bit too much.  He is an interesting under the radar arm that looks more of the BOR mold, high follow into next spring. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/07/16/2014-mlb-draft-profile-cody-reed/

17.   Aaron Bummer

7-17-13 - Aaron Bummer (Nebraska) – LHP Pitcher, Harwich Mariners - 32 IP, 4-1, 0.84 ERA, 13 K, .97 WHIP -     Bummer is nothing if not consistent. The Mariners' main man on the mound picked up another win this week, an 8-3 victory over Falmouth, to pull into a tie for the league lead in wins. He did so in the same fashion he has all season, dominating his opponents not through strikeouts, but through ground balls and flyouts. Bummer rarely gives up a run, and lets on very few baserunners. He simply gets the job done. He is in the top five in innings pitched and ERA, and has not allowed anyone beyond second base all summer. Bummer is a shutdown pitcher, and while he is backed by solid defense, the No. 2 team in the East owes a lot to its ace. http://capecodbaseball.org/news/league/index.html?article_id=1565

20.   Devin Smeltzer

7-2-13 - 78. Devin Smeltzer- LHP, Bishop Eustace ( NJ) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/jeff-sullivans-top-100-2014-prospects/

7-24-13  -  Devin Smeltzer, lhp, Bishop Eustace Prep, Voorhees, N.J./Pennsauken American Legion - The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Smeltzer has a lean, lanky and angular build with long extremities. With a high waist, broad shoulders and lean legs, Smeltzer offers significant projection. He has a very deceptive delivery and the ball jumps out of his hand. Starting from the far third-base side of the rubber, Smeltzer uses a high leg kickand throws across his body to create deception and movement. He produces good arm speed from a long, loose arm action. Smeltzer’s arm slot, which is typically a tick below three-quarters, varies to create deception. The Florida Gulf Coast commit generally throws in the upper-80s but can sit 89-91 mph in shorter stints. At its best, Smeltzer’s high-70s breaking ball has sharp 1-7 tilt and depth. He will also vary its shape and throw a sweepier version to lefthanders and mixes in a low-80s changeup. Despite many moves parts, Smeltzer repeats his delivery well and has an advanced feel for pitching. Smeltzer sports glasses like fellow lefties Matt Purke, Brett Cecil and Gustavo Chacin.  http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

8-4-13 - Player:  Devin Smeltzer   Primary Position:  LHP  Secondary Position(s):  OF  Height/Weight:  6’2/170  Bats/Throws:  R/L mHome Town:  Vorhees, NJ  School:  Bishop Eustace Prep  Travel Team(s):  Tri-State Arsenal  Class of:  2014 - Scouting Notes: - 2013 Tournament of Stars notes from Don Olsen: - Devin has ideal sloped athletic frame, high waist, lean and loose arm with a great deal of projection left in the tank. He is lanky in a Chris Sale mold. He throws from a ¾ to almost low ¾ slot.  Arm action is a little whippy with some elevation and wrap, looking more reliever type action, highly deceptive and tough to adjust for hitters.  His fastball was 87-88 (89) mph with the ability to work it around, gets some rise out of it, can keep it down.  Change up 75-76 mph, flashed some good hand side fade to project.  Curve 76-79 mph, had a slurve action in a 1/7 path, good spin on it to project. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/04/2014-mlb-draft-profile-devin-smeltzer/

21.   Quinn Brody

7-20-13 – Primary Position:  LHP - Secondary Position(s):  OF - Height/Weight:  6’1/195 - Bats/Throws:  L/L 2013 Tournament of Stars notes from Don Olsen: - Quinn Brody  has a compact thick build with angular frame, good size that does not have much development in the lower half.  He shows some projection and should sit in the 205-210 pound range in a Randy Wolf mold. He has a simple three piece delivery that is a relaxed high ¾ slot.  His fastball was 87-89 (90) mph that is hard and heavy offering, that has a bit of hop in it.  He shows the ability to work both sides, willing to work inside.  The curve, 73-74 mph, had a bit of slurve glove side run, but decent rotation to project. He did not flash a change up this encounter, showcasing a two pitch mix.  He is a good follow into the spring. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/07/20/2014-mlb-draft-profile-quinn-brodey/

8-10-13 - New Balance Area Code games - For the Brewers, left-hander Quinn Brody (CA) got the start. He isn’t the biggest, most projectable arm but he had an easy delivery that he repeated well with a smooth arm action. The left-handers fastball sat 87-89 MPH and had solid plane. His curve got slurvy at times but flashred nice 1-7 break at 71-73 MPH. http://prospectinsider.com/view/2013-area-codes:-day-4-notes/

22.   Alex Destino

7-24-13  -  Alex Destino, lhp, North Buncombe, Weaverville, N.C./South Charlotte Panthers - At 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, Destino has a large frame and sturdy build. The South Carolina commit has a smooth, repeatable delivery and easy arm action. His three-quarter arm slot creates deception and downhill plane. He sits 88-91 mph with his fastball and touches 92. Destino shows feel for a 76-78 mph breaking ball with three-quarter tilt and depth. He mixes an 80-82 mph changeup with fade. Destino repeats his delivery well and consistently throws strikes. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 35. Alex Destino, LHP, North Buncombe HS (NC) - At 6′-3″ and 220 pounds, the southpaw can dial it up to 93 mph and shows a good feel for his secondary stuff. He still needs to refine his pitches, but with his size and easy delivery, there is a lot of upside. Committed to South Carolina. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

23.   Foster Griffin

7-24-13  -  Foster Griffin, lhp, The First Academy, Orlando/Orlando Scorpions - At 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, Griffin has a large frame, strong lower half and lanky build that offers projection. With long arms, Griffin gets downhill plane from a high three-quarter arm slot. He has a long arm action that creates natural glove-side run. The Mississippi commit can touch 92 mph and sits 88-91 and offers a 71-74 curveball with three-quarter tilt. His mid-70s changeup with fade might be a better offering. Griffin, who plays travel ball with the Orlando Scorpions, attends The First Academy, which has at least three seniors who could be drafted a year after producing third-round shortstop Ben Deluzio. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/tyler-koleks-heavy-fastball-among-tournament-of-stars-standouts/

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 18. Foster Griffin – LHP, The First Academy (FL) - Big, projectable LHP who is already sitting 91-92 http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

8-14-13 – Through The Fence – Top 50 Prospects – 50. Foster Griffin, LHP, The First Academy (FL) - At 6’-5” and 190 pounds, the southpaw has a lot of projection and already has a great feel for pitching. His fastball can touch 92 mph and he adds a mid-70s change-up with nice fade. He has a loose and lanky frame, which bodes well for added velocity and mechanics. His size alone makes him an intriguing prospect. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50-prospects/36463#mwWwsFxSUZy7YC5V.99

8-27-13 - Player:  Foster Griffin   Primary Position:  LHP  Secondary Position(s):  OF  Height/Weight:  6’5/195  Bats/Throws:  R/L  Home Town:  Orlando, FL  School:  The First Academy   Travel Team(s):  Orlando Scorpions  Class of:  2014  Committed To:  Mississippi  Scouting Notes:  2013 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars Notes from Don Olsen - Long, sloped and slider athletic build in Brian Matusz type mold.  He has a sound three piece delivery with the balance and transfer that is relaxed, effortless.  He repeats well for a long and limber pitcher, nice extension that allows him to attack the lower half with plane on every offering.  Fastball was 89-91 mph with an extension that plays up the offering.  Good movement on it with a tough plane to square up.  Curve, 73-75 mph, has the shape and path to project into an above average offering.  He did not show the change up this event, but that pitch could round out a nice 3 pitch mix.  Foster is very projectable with easy arm speed. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/27/2014-mlb-draft-profile-foster-griffin/

8-15-13 - Under Armour All-Star Game – Foster Griffin, LHP:  Another 6'5" pitcher, Griffin is still gangly with room to grow but the height also gives him some natural plane,  He doesn't throw all that hard now 88-92, but there's obviously some projection left in that 195 lbs. build and could easily develop well above average velo for a southpaw.  He also has glove side run on his FB.  In addition, Griffin throws a curve and an advanced change for his age. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/08/2014-mlb-draft-ua-game-roster-and-preview-plus-more-tickets-and-meet-up-information/

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 24 –  LHP Forrest Griffin – The First Academy (FL) HS – Another big lefty (6-5) tha has moved into my first round after an impressive summer at places like the 2013 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars and Under Armour All-Star Game. Fastball: 89-91… curve 73-75… still some velo projection. Had a great summer

24.   Justin Steele

2013 East Coast Pro Showcase Top 50 Prospects    - 32. Justin Steele – LHP, George County (MS) HS - Wasn’t aware of Steele before the event, but he is certainly on the radar now after coming out sitting 91-92, touching 93. http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-top-50-ecp-prospects/

25.   Andrew Summerfield

8-27-13 - Player:  Andrew Summerville   Primary Position:  LHP  Height/Weight:  6’3/185  Bats/Throws:  L/L  Home Town:  Seattle, WA  School:  Lakeside  Class of:  2014  Committed To:  Stanford  - Scouting Notes: - 2013 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars Notes from Don Olsen  - Tall, long narrow athletic frame with a ton of projection left in a Mitch Williams type mold, to go along with the high leg kick delivery.  Good relaxed three piece action with the extension to stay low, there is a bit of backspin off the 4S, good release.  Fastball was 86-88 mph with some natural tail on the offering.  The curve, 70-71 mph, has some depth and rotation with a touch of glove side break to project. He shows a great deal of moxie on the mound, good fight and willing to attack both hitters.  He is a loose and projectable arm that could see a bit more velocity down the line. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/08/27/2014-mlb-draft-profile-andrew-summerville/

26.   Dillon Peters

9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League - Dillon Peters  (Texas – Jr. ) 5-10/190, Harwich Mariners 22 IP, 21 K, 1.22 ERA: FB 89-92 SL 76-77 -  Most of the other members of my All-Cape pitching staff are well above six feet tall. Peters doesn’t possess the same type of height, but he makes up for that based on his heart and competitive drive. He would be successful on his intensity alone. When you add that to a plus FB and a swing and miss slider, you have the makings of a pitcher that can get outs in any situation. http://bullpenbanter.com/2013-all-cape-team-pitchers/

10-23-13 - College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.  We continue the list today at number 85 with University of Texas junior LHP Dillon Peters. In his sophomore season with the Longhorns, Peters went 6-3 with a 1.97 ERA; he finished the 2013 season with 86.2 IP and struck out 57 batters in the process. A second team All-Big 12 selection, Peters had an impressive .223 batting average against and during his 14 starts on the mound, the Longhorns were able to go 10-4. On top of his success on the field, Peters also shined in the classroom as he was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for fall 2012. http://ht.ly/2AZ41K

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 13. Dillon Peters / LHP / Texas – If you’re looking for someone with ‘pitchability’ Peters is your guy; with above-average command of a 90-92 fastball and two above-average secondary offerings. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

27.   Jared Miller

9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League - Jared Miller 6-6/235, Vanderbilt Senior) Orleans Firebirds 31.1 IP, 24 K, 2.29 ERA: FB 85-91 SL 77-79 CH 82 -  The slider misses tons of bats and he floods the zone with all his pitches. He works 88-89 but turns up the velo when it matters. With his body and deceptive mechanics, he has a bright future on the hill. http://bullpenbanter.com/2013-all-cape-team-pitchers/

28.   Kyle Freeland

9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League – LHP  Kyle Freeland (Evansville Jr.) 6-4/185, Hyannis Harborhawks 40 IP, 48 K, 2.25 ERA: FB 90-93 CB 78-81 SL 82-85 CH 82 -  His fastball has plus action and he walked 4 batters this entire CCBL season. The slider has the potential to turn into an MLB out-pitch, and he will improve in replicating his arm slot and arm action due to his athleticism. I think his ceiling is as high as any pitcher in the CCBL. http://bullpenbanter.com/2013-all-cape-team-pitchers/

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 9. Kyle Freeland / LHP / Evansville – Freeland was very good this summer, showing a fastball that sits in the low 90′s and a slider that will flash plus with very good tilt as well. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 27. Pittsburgh Pirates: Kyle Freeland, LHP, Evansville - Kyle Freeland’s draft stock is on the rise after a strong showing this past summer in the Cape Cod League. With a projectable 6’4”, 185-pound build as well as an easy arm action and a smooth delivery, the left-hander works in the 90-92 mph range with his fastball and has been gunned as high as 94 mph. Freeland’s slider represents his best present offering, and he demonstrates a feel for adding and subtracting to it. When he throws the pitch with velocity, it plays as more of a cutter in the mid-80s with late glove-side slicing action; when he takes something off, the pitch is closer to a true slider in the low-80s with more depth. Meanwhile, the southpaw also showcases an advanced feel for an average changeup at 84-86 mph that plays up thanks to the fluidity in his delivery. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  45-LHP Kyle Freeland Evansville 5/14/93- He had been very inconsistent in college before emerging last summer on the Cape where he led the league in K’s with 48 while walking just 4. He has a funky delivery that adds deception but it also certainly registers some concern for future health. He works with a low 90’s fastball and a solid slider/cutter.(Out of first round- Indians selection) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

29.   Nick Raquet

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 84.Nick Raquet – LHP, State College (PA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

30.   Brian Gonzalez

10-25-13  - PG Showcase – LHP Brian Gonzalez (Archbishop McCarthy HS, Miramar, Fla.) - Gonzalez threw three innings from a high three-quarter arm slot, creating good downhill angle on his 87-91 mph heater. He kept lefthanders off balance with a 74-76 curveball, as well as righthanders with his 79-80 changeup. Gonzalez’s changeup featured fastball arm speed and was a swing-and-miss offering when buried down in the zone.  http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/toussaint-wows-evaluators-at-jupiter/

31.   Tucker Baca

10-26-13 - Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB  - Tucker Baca (HS/GA) creating a stir. Low angle LHP touched 94 in 1st, 90 in 3rd, killing LHB with his slider

11-2-13 – Jim Callis – Tucker Baca dominated the Dallas Patriots, working four shutout innings in a 9-1 win. He’s a 6-foot-3, 195-pound lefty who throws from a low arm slot, so of course he draws Chris Sale comparisons. Baca threw 91-93 mph early in the game, harder than usual and without sacrificing any of the tremendous life he generates with his fastball. He averaged 88-90 mph over the course of his outing. The Arizona State recruit also destroyed lefthanders with his slider, which averaged 72-74 mph and peaked at 78. He used just three changeups, though some evaluators believe that’s consistently his best pitch. All told, he threw 45 of his 68 pitches for strikes while allowing just one hit and two walks and fanning seven. http://ht.ly/qg5La

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 92 Tucker Baca LHP L/L 6-2 180 North Gwinett HS, Suwanee, Ga. Arizona State http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

32.   Brendan McKay

10-28-13 – Jim Callis - Left-hander Brendan McKay (Blackhawk High, Beaver Falls, Pa.) pitched very well in relief, striking out 10 in 4 2/3 innings as the DBacks rallied for a 4-3 victory. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder topped out at 89 mph with his fastball and sat in the 84-86 mph range, and the Royals never seemed to get good swings against it. He fanned both Cooley and Railey on fastballs. http://ht.ly/qeYJz

33.   Ryan Avidano

10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - Championship game starter LHP Ryan Avidano, 18, was named the event’s most valuable pitcher after throwing four scoreless innings and striking out seven versus three hits against the Burn, who entered the championship game undefeated and having scored nearly six runs a game. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Avidano has an extra-large frame, lanky build and long limbs. Avidano (Starr’s Mill High, Fatetteville, Ga.) has a deceptive delivery and mid-to-high-80s fastball.
