Welp..This is called putting your faith in the hands of an unproven source. Here's what I can tell you. Mr. Rickli was present at the winter meetings and has been tied to other much more reputable writers. Are his sources legitimate? I honestly don't know...but with last night's news that the Orioles were on on the verge of acquiring a bat, this news makes sense.
The Mets remain interested in pitching prospects in exchange for Davis' services, but their demands have been high and somewhat unrealistic. That said, I remain confident Davis will eventually be moved this winter, even if that means its the equivalent of a salary dump. Whether Rickli's source's are accurate remains to be seen, but Davis' time with the Mets remains limited. That much is clear...
Update:
Rickli followed up his report with the following tweets...
I'm not sure either of those are great endorsements of the original report, but that's where we're at right now. Davis may be on the move.. Or we're just anticipating a move so bad that we're willing to latch onto just about anything. Only time will tell...

Ike and Chris Davis hit 90 next year. Ike needs a change of scenery, and what better place than a bandbox to bounce back from 2013. Having said that, Met owners have to be petrified of keeping him and giving him a chance at producing an attendance-killing April to June three-peat. His awful play in those months the past 2 years knocked them out of the pretense of a pennant race early both years and had to help destroy attendance - and revenues.

ReplyDeleteThat's an awfully heavy load to put on Ike. His awful play knocked them out of a pennant run? Sorry to inform you, but it was a team effort.
Mack-
Kubatko "heard rumblings" that the O's were looking at someone's medical records. No name, no team. He knew that Duquette had talked to Alderson about Davis some time ago. So he connects the dots to conclude that Davis may be on the move? Pure and utter speculation. I'll wait for a news conference or at least a solid rumor.
With Chris Davis at 1B (86 HRs over the past 2 seasons), why are they at all interested in Ike, and are they interested enough to give us someone of quality in return?
ReplyDeleteAs has been pointed out, the Mets can release Ike in ST and only owe him $600G, so getting rid of him now would hardly be a "salary dump".
If no one wants to give value for him, keep him at least until he shows something in ST.
