NEW MET - 1B -Chris Garcia

The Mets have signed free-agent 1B Chris Garcia to a minor-league deal, the player said on Thursday (Twitter, Feb. 7).

Garcia, 26, who was born in Brooklyn, missed all of 2013 due to injury, but hit .285 with a .408 OBP in 411 at bats with Atlanta’s Single-A team in 2012.

He’s a career .330 hitter with a .435 OBP in six minor league seasons. He has yet to appear in a big-league game.

Had an excellent season for Atlanta's Sally League Rome team in 2010: 348-AB, .305, 16-HR, 67-RBI

Then, went 411-AB, .285, 11-HR, 59-RBI for A+ Lynchberg 2012

Spent 2013 on DL

Will give both St. Lucie and Binghamton some 1B insurance in case Jayce Boyd isn't ready to come back from his injuries/surgery
