D Whit - The Shortstop Mystery About To Be Solved?

I asked myself, “why on earth are the Mets wrapping up their spring by going to Montreal and playing Toronto for two games?” It makes no sense. Then as the date drew closer without “Drew” arriving it dawned on me and the answer appeared right before my very eyes-like a burning bush, a UFO whizzing by in the sky.

THE plan to solve the SS situation. The real reason the Mets have not acquired a SS this spring. And the beauty of it is the Mets will not have to part with any of its prospects or current players.

What is it you ask? It’s a sublime and truly mad genius solution that only a military-minded GM and homesick SS could conceive.

The return of the "Professor."

That's right  Jose Reyes is coming back.

How? He defecting.

OK, you can stop laughing now. No, I mean it really. You can stop laughing. I connected the dots (or in this case the question marks) and came to this stunning conclusion.I’ll say it again, Jose Reyes is defecting back to New York! The jet will be on the runway, gassed up and ready to go Saturday night following the game.

That’s right he’s going to defect Canada and return to play baseball for a United States team. Crazy conspiracy theory idea you say? Well, think about this, Friday and Saturday night are the Mets only visit north of the border all season. They can play an entire season without even having to venture anywhere near Mountie territory.

Of course Toronto GM Anthony Anthopoulos will cry foul, but guess what? He’ll have to take the Mets to court to get Reyes back, and by the time that happens all or most of 2014 will be in the books. As for MLB? Ha! Bud will turn a blind eye for his buddy Fred and probably cite some kind of, “we need a winner in NY ‘for the good of the game ‘clause.” Also, don’t forget Bud kinda owes Sandy one for solving the Mets “problem”.

This is why when asked about the SS “situation” Sandy calmly replied, “what situation?” That's because that ole wily SOB knew! By that time the plan was already in place-Jose was coming back.

The whole Wilmer Flores at SS experiment is a smokescreen, a diversion to keep people from thinking the impossible. You have hand it to Sandy, he’s played his cards close to the vest on this one, even keeping loudmouthed Jeff Wilpon silent, TC as well. But you know I wonder if they even know. It’s possible this operation is purely Sandy-Jose in nature.

All for the best I say because the less who know the better. In fact I don’t think it will be announced right away. All the better to surprise the opposition. Won’t Blue Jays manager John Gibbons be shocked when he has to rip up his opening day line-up card after seeing Reyes announced at Citi Field to a raucous standing ovation. Also, what better place to pull a stunt like this than right in front of the home town faithful.

In case you think I've lost it. Ask yourself-what about Jose’s miraculous recovery from his latest hamstring strain? Earlier in the week there was talk of a DL stint and now he’s penciled in to start at SS for the Jays Friday night? Come on people wake up and smell the coffee, read the tea leaves folks, he had to make the trip otherwise the defection couldn’t have taken place.

Trust me I know this is real Mission Impossible-type stuff but sometimes the best solution is also the craziest. And that’s our Sandy, crazy.

Crazy all right
 Crazy like a freakin’ fox!

  1. And we can offer Jose asylum when he gets here - insane asylum. Drs. Wilpon, Alderson and Collin have the keys to the loonie bin as we all know.

  4. I'd sure like to structure a mid-season trade for Reyes and R.A. Dickey...

    1. Give them d'Arnaud, Tejada, Dice K and DeGrom...Plawecki will be ready by mid season. We will see he is a hitting machine as the season unfolds
