  1. I think Mets will again have best minor league win-loss record above rookie ball this year - it is almost, "how can it not?" with such pitching depth. Offense also apprears better in minors this year than last - I would not be surprised to see the top 4 leagues' Mets teams be a combined 80 to 100 games over .500

  2. According to some reports out now it may be Mejia who has a leg up on that 5th starter's position due to the rules governing minor league call-ups. If he's farmed out, they have to wait 10 days before promoting him, If Niese is not ready when expected, then they may need both Matsuzaka and Mejia. By paying the $100K to Dice-K they keep that option open. If that's indeed the case, then I wouldn't be so fast to pencil in Mejia for the AAA rotation. Furthermore, suppose he pitches competently and remains healthy, what incentive is there to return him to the minors?

Oh yeah, this is the Mets organization I'm talking about...where youth goes to die and mediocrity gets rewarded. Nevermind. :)

  3. Left out the one cogent fact -- Dice-K could be put in extended spring training and not be farmed out, thus avoiding that 10-day rule.

  4. @Reese

Sandy acknowledged that this is exactly what the club is doing......Mejia scheduled to start the 4th game of the season. IF Niese is not ready to go April 6th, Matsuzaka will be called up to make that start. Afterwards club decides whether or not who to send him down depending on how much longer Niese needs.
