Thursday afternoon at Citi Field, Daniel Murphy’s RBI double
broke a 1 all tie in the bottom of the 6th inning and Bartolo Colon
struck out a season high 8 batters. The Mets take a 4 game series from the
Cardinals with a 4-1 win. The game was scoreless until the top of the 5th
when Tony Cruz hit a gapper between Chris and Eric Young to score Kolten Wong
to make it 1-zip. Chris Young then took
a Lance Lynn pitch into the 2nd deck in left field in the bottom of
the inning to knot the game up, for Young his first on the year and first as a Met. In top of the 8th
the Mets iced the game scoring twice. Curtis Granderson came through with a RBI
single to score Anthony Recker to make it 3-1. Granderson was thrown out in a
rundown between 1st and 2nd. Eric Young then tripled and
came home another RBI hit by Murphy. Colon was the best he’s been all year going 7 innings allowing just 4 hits, the 1 run, it was earned and stuck out the 8. Carlos Torres and Scott Rice navigated a scoreless 8th, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched the 9th
to earn his first career save (He had 1 save in Japan.) Murphy had the double,
single and 2 RBI, Granderson after going 0-22 is now 2 for his last 4. With the win the Mets improve to 12-10 on the
season, now 2 games over .500 for the first time in 2014. They are also now 6-7
at Citi Field after taking 3 of 4 from the Cards. Bobby Abreu made his first start as a Met in
right field and went 1 for 3 with a double.
Colon gets the win he’s now 2-3, Lance Lynn takes the loss he’s now 4-1,
it’s his first loss in April ever. He’s now 12-1 in April for his career. Friday
night the Marlins come to town. Zach
Wheeler (1-2 4.63) goes for the Mets.
Henderson Alvarez (1-2 2.63) goes for Miami.
We can talk lack of hitting all day, but I'm sure enjoying the fact that Mets are winning ballgames.
