Astros Call Up OF George Springer, Help Out The Mets.

I would like to be the first one to thank the Houston organization for calling up George Springer last week. He is a premium talent and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that he was major league ready. In addition to Springer being called up, numerous other 1st year prospects are in/could be on their way to the big leagues clubs as soon as an injury occurs or slumps force their respective teams hand.

STL- Oscar Taveras and Kolten Wong, CIN- Billy Hamilton BAL- Kevin Gausman and Dylan Bundy, NYY- Yangervis Solarte and JR Murphy, HOU- Springer, Jon Villar, Jarrod Cosart, Jon Singleton and LJ Hoes, ARZ- Archie Bradley, OAK- Sonny Gray.

These teams have already gained an additional year of service time since the prospects will not gain a full year of service time, but, they will all be subject to the Super 2 designation. The rules of the Super 2 deadline indicate that "If a player has less than three years of service time, but more than two, and they rank within the top 22% of all 2-year players in terms of service time, those players shall be eligible for a 4th additional arbitration season."

"TOP 22%" that's the important point here. With all these guys being called up earlier in the season they should all accrue more service time than Mets prospects such as Noah Syndergaard, Rafael Montero, Wilmer Flores and Cesar Puello. This moves the anticipated Super 2 date of June 23rd from its current date to an earlier one. As more and more young stars continue to be called up, it allows the Mets to call up our guys early without exposing them to "Super 2"

In other words, Be excited guys! Cause "Thor's Hammer" could be appearing in Flushing a lot sooner than you think

  1. Montero is outpitching Syndergaard and de Grom is outpitching both of them.

  2. This has to be the most confusing rule in baseball. I could land on Neptune easier.

  3. I can think of another planet that is more phonetically anatomically correct than Neptune for this rule

  4. Mack,
Alderson may be looking for bullpen help on Neptune as we speak. Syndergaard will need to step it up performance-wise if he expects to be in the Met rotation in June.

  5. Noah isn't ready. That should have been clear this spring. And I never expected him to be called up before September of this year. Not because of Super 2, but because he's not ready. Montero, on the other hand, IS ready and should be up here now.
