Jon Heyman is reporting via Twitter that the Mets and Pirates are working on a trade for Ike Davis before the game starts.
Chris Cotillo now confirms that the deal has been completed.
The team will receive 1 possibly 2 prospects in return. Possibly the same return as the Marlon Byrd deal.
Adam Rubin confirms that the team will get rhp zack thorton and a ptbnl.
Rubin has indicated that the PTBNL is going to be a "significant" 2013 draftee thus the player cannot be named until June 7th.
Boy hope ptbnl is a real nice prospect otherwise its a weird deal. Thorton was avaiable at rule 5 draft and mets passed.
ReplyDeleteVery disappointing. Thornton might be OK working out of the BP, but he doesn't appear to have the upside that Vic Black has. Word is that the PTBN will be a more significant prospect than Thornton. Can only hope that is the case. Josh Bell would be outstanding, as would Alen Hanson, but either may be too highly ranked to hope for.
ReplyDeleteA dark horse, but someone who could be a find, would be LHSP Adam Wilk. He has had 2 brief cups of coffee with Detroit, neither impressive, but nothing enough to base any judgement. Another possibility, is 22 year old lefty, Orlando Castro, who has had a checkered career in the Pirates organization. It seems that he has excelled when he was used as a starter, but was mediocre when primarily a reliever.

ReplyDeleteWas Thornton the pitcher they wanted from the Pirates over the winter for Ike?

ReplyDeleteYes he was.
I missed this one. The mother of a close associate/friend of my wife died today and we've been tied up with that.
I'll post up some Thornton info, but I agree with what others have said. Let's hope the PTBNL is significant. Alderson has seemed to pick the pocket of Pittsburgh before.
I'm thrilled for Ike... he hated being part of all this shit and maybe he can get back to loving the game he plays.
Pbtnl is rumored to be Austin meadows

ReplyDeleteI'll wait and comment on the PTBNL when he is confirmed.
I don't know why Herb is that upset.
Thornton has been a top 15 Pirates prospect who has done what he is asked to do.

2014:

What's wrong with these statistics?
This really kills me. Mets "fans" (and, yes, I put that in quotes) have been bitching and moaning about Ike for years now......to the point that THEY WANTED HIM CUT this spring. Just cut. Now they're complaining we didn't get enough back for him. I like Ike. He's going to be great with Pittsburgh. I just wish some Mets "fans" would realize that they're part of the problem. Actually supporting a team you're supposedly a fan of goes a long way towards better performance on the field.
