Mets Minor League Report: April 6, 2014
MMLR Player of the Day: B-Mets RHP, Hansel Robles
Las Vegas (3-1) edges Fresno (1-3) 6-5
Starter Logan Verrett threw 55 of his 77 pitches for strikes (71%): 6.0 IP, 3 R, (1 ER) 8 H, 0 BB, 3 K.
Following Verrett, Ryan Reid continued to have problems: 1.0 IP. R, 4 H, K.
Giancarlo Alverado pitched a hitless inning: BB, K.
Jeff Walters came in for the 9th with a 1 run lead, but blew the save. (1.0 IP, R, 2 H, 0 BB) With the 51’s walkoff win, Walters got the decision. (W, 1-0)
The 51’s offense was spread among 7 players, including pitcher Logan Verrett (1-2, RBI) and Eric Campbell, (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R) who was the only one of the seven with a multi-hit game.
Wilmer Flores, playing SS: 1-4, BB, with 2 strikeouts.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1-5, 2B, RBI, R) doubled with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th. Capt. Kirk is hitting .444 for the young season.
Zach Lutz (1-3, 2B, BB, RBI) followed the Nieuwenhuis double with one of his own for the game winner. Lutz is hitting an even .500.
Juan Centeno: 1-4, R.
Binghamton (2-2) holds off Akron (2-2) to win 5-4
Hansel Robles pitched a stellar 5.0 innings (0 R, 2 H, BB, 8 K) but gets ano decision when Reliever Jack Leathersich (BS-1, W 1-0, 1.1 IP 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K) gives up the 2 run lead, but got the W when Bingo scored in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead for good. The Leather Rocket got all four of his outs via the strikeout.
T.J. Chism tossed a hitless 1.1 innings: BB, 2 K.
Chase Bradford got the save (S, 2) despite giving up 2 R on 4 H with 1 K.
Kevin Plawecki: 2-4, 2 R.
Matt Clark: 3-4, 2 2B, RBI, R
Jayce Boyd: 1-3, 2B, RBI, R.
Dustin Lawley: 3-4, 2B, RBI, R.
Palm Beach (3-1) ekes one out over St. Lucie (1-3) 1-0
Domingo Tapia (L, 0-1) pitched well enough to win, but got a loss when the Mets could not muster a run: 5.0 IP, R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
Bret Mitchell: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB, K was masterful.
Randy Fontanez: 1.0 IP, H, K.
Not much offense today for the Lucies.
SS, Phillip Evans, (2-3, 2B) is now hitting .308.
Lakewood (2-1) @ Savannah (1-2) postponed - rain.
Great to see Hansel Robles looking like he may be back to his terrific 2012 form, and Tapia pitch pretty well after his struggles last year. Keep hitting, Plawecki, your time may be sooner than you think. Flawed Rocket: I think all 7 of Leathersich's outs this year are by K, but an outing too reminiscent of last year.

ReplyDeleteYou are correct about LeatherJack. 7 outs - 7 K's. If he can find the plate more regularly, the kid has a future. Good to see Chism back in form. And offensively, Centeno could make a name for himself too.
