MLB Draft Insider - New Revised 3-31 Mock

No. 01: Houston Astros
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Brady AikenLHPCathedral Catholic HS (San Diego)$7.7904M
An awful long way to go still, but Aiken is the best player on my board, and I believe the Astros feel that way right now as well. Carlos Rodon obviously is still a consideration, as are a few other guys. For now though, Aiken is the pick.

No. 02: Miami Marlins
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Carlos RodonLHPN.C. State$6.7084M
I believe that the Marlins would have a very difficult choice on their hands if Rodon and Tyler Kolek were both on the board, as I’ve been told they’re quite a fan of the latter, but I go Rodon by a small margin.

No. 03: Chicago White Sox
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Tyler BeedeRHPVanderbilt$5.6264M
Kolek is the higher ranked prospect, but I think the White Sox would go with Beede, as they haven’t taken a prep pitcher with their first pick in quite some time. I also think they’d consider Alex Jackson at this point as well.

No. 04: Chicago Cubs
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Tyler KolekRHPShepherd (Tex.) HS$4.5444M
If Rodon or Beede is here, I think he’s the pick; as I think the Cubs would prefer to go with a collegiate arm. That being said, Kolek would be the best player left on my board, and I don’t think he’s going to take a ton of minor-league seasoning.

No. 05: Minnesota Twins
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Alex JacksonCRancho Bernardo (San Diego) HS$3.787M
I know Minnesota fans would prefer to see the Twins take a college pitcher — and I think that they’d absolutely consider Tyler Beede if he were there and Jeff Hoffman if the draft were to play out like this — but I think the best prep hitter in the class would be very appealing at this point in the draft as well.

No. 06: Seattle Mariners
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Jeff HoffmanRHPVanderbilt$3.516M
Hoffman hasn’t been nearly as dominant this year as he was over the summer, but it’s still tough for me to see him falling out of the top ten and with the Mariners lacking quality arms at the higher levels Hoffman is a fit in that regard, too.

No. 07: Philadelphia Phillies
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Grant HolmesRHPConway HS (S.C.)$3.264M
Many scouts that I’ve talked to believe that it’s Holmes — not Kolek — that is the best prep right-hander in the class, and though his upside is limited, he should rise quickly with a fastball that touches 98 and two above-average  to plus secondary offerings.

No. 08: Colorado Rockies
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Bradley ZimmerOFSan Francisco$3.1378M
Zimmer is the best all-around collegiate bat in the entire class, and while he’s not a lock to stick in centerfield, it looks like the bat will play at whatever outfield position he ends up at.

No. 09: Toronto Blue Jays
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Nick GordonSSOlympia HS (Fla.)$3.0296M
Gordon has clearly separated himself as the best shortstop in the class, showing sneaky offensive ability from the left side and plus defensive chops in the field.

No. 10: New York Mets
NamePositionSchool2013 Slot
Trea TurnerSSN.C. State2.9214M
Turner hasn’t been nearly as good this year as he was over his freshman and sophomore campaign, but with plus-plus speed and a chance to stick at shortstop, I still think he goes somewhere in this vicinity.
