St. Lucie 13 - Bradenton 4

The top offense in the Florida State League reached new heights on Friday.

The St. Lucie Mets, who lead the FSL in several major offensive categories, came from behind to beat the Bradenton Marauders 13-4 by scoring 10 runs in the eighth inning.

With one swing the Mets tied the game and took the lead. Phillip Evans blooped a single to left field with the bases loaded that was out of Jonathan Schwind’s reach, allowing Jairo Perez to score. Schwind’s throw to third base to get Gilbert Gomez got away and Gomez scored to make it 5-4 Mets.

Robby Roland then gave up another RBI single and an RBI ground out. Trailing 7-4, Marauders’ manager Tom Prince went to his right field Walker Gourley to get the final out of the eighth.

It took a while. T.J. Rivera delivered an RBI single, Gomez walked with the bases loaded to force home a run and Aderlin Rodriguez capped the inning off with a grand slam.

By the time the Eudy Pina grounded out to finally end the eighth, the 10 runs scored by the Mets were the most in a single inning this season.

Rodriguez finished with six RBIs and now leads the FSL with 25.

The first five innings of the game were a pitching duel. St. Lucie’s Michael Fulmer did not allow a run in five innings. He stranded eight Marauders, including runners on third base in four of his five innings.

Pittsburgh’s No. 3 prospect Tyler Glasow made his 2014 debut on the mound for Bradenton. He limited the Mets to two hits in five scoreless innings and struck out six.

The Mets broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the sixth. Jairo Perez drove in Brandon Nimmo for the first run of the game. Two batters later Rodriguez doubled home two more runs off of Jhondaniel Medina.

The 3-0 lead for the Mets was erased in the seventh. With two outs, Josh Bell drove in a run to put the Marauders on the board. Then with two on, Eric Wood smashed a three-run homer off of Randy Fontanez to put the Marauders up 4-3.

The Mets stormed backed with their 10 run inning in the eighth behind six hits.

Fontanez earned the win. Roland received the loss.

Nimmo, Rivera, Perez and Rodriguez all had two-hit games for the Mets. One night after he drew four walks, Nimmo drew three more on Friday.- team press release
