The southpaw took a no-decision in his most recent start against the Erie SeaWolves on April 26. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six in a game the B-Mets lost 6-5 in walk-off fashion. Selected in the 7th round of the 2009 draft by the Mets out of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, he is in his third season as a B-Met.
GAME ONE, PORTLAND STARTER: LHP Henry Owens makes his sixth start of the season and third against the B-Mets. The southpaw took his first loss of the season in his last start against the Trenton Thunder on April 27. The California native was tagged for six runs on a season-high nine hits over five innings, matching his shortest outing of the season. In two starts against the B-Mets, Owens has gone 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA. In 11.0 innings he’s walked seven and allowed a .244 batting average.
GAME TWO, BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Bowman makes his fourth start of the season and first against the Portland Sea Dogs. Selected in the 12th round of the 2012 Draft by the Mets out of Princeton University, he is entering his third year in the organization.
GAME TWO, PORTLAND STARTER: LHP Brian Johnson makes his Double-A debut against the B-Mets today. He opened the season with Salem Red Sox (High-A) and went 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in five starts. In his final two starts in the Carolina League, he tossed six shutout innings. On Apri 18 against Winston-Salem, he retired all 18 batters he faced. Johnson was selected as the 31st overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Florida. He is in his third season in the Red Sox organization.
ANOTHER DOUBLE DIP: After enduring seven postponements in the month of April, today marks Binghamton’s third doubleheader of the season. The B-Mets have split their first two twin bills this season. In each they have won the opener and lost the nightcap.
FAMILIAR FACES ON THE HILL: In Binghamton’s last doubleheader against the Erie SeaWolves on April 26, both Matt Bowman and Darin Gorski started for the B-Mets. Bowman won the opener, while Gorski took a no-decision in the nightcap.
TWO IN A ROW: After dropping their first three meetings with the Portland Sea Dogs, the B-Mets have won two straight against the Double-A Red Sox. Friday night’s Portland loss, coupled with Trenton’s win bumped the Sea Dogs out of first place.
SATURDAYS IN 2014: The B-Mets have already played a half-dozen games on Saturdays this season. They have gone 3-3.
