Sunday afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets hit into 5 double
plays squandering scoring opportunities and wasting an amazing effort by Rafael
Montero, the Dbacks win the opener of their double header with a 2-1 win. Montero in this 3rd major league
start was brilliant going 6 innings allowing just 2 hits 1 run walking three
and striking out 10..but ends up with the no decision. Arizona took a 1 nothing lead in the top of
the first when Chris Owings hit a solo homer (3) off Montero. The Mets opened
the bottom of the 1st with three straight hits as David Wright’s RBI
single tied the game at 1-1. It stayed that way till the top of the 9th
inning. With the game tied at 1, Jenrry
Mejia pitched into trouble in the ninth and with two outs Owing hit a grounder
that Wright made a great catch on but Daniel Murphy flubbed the throw to second
base for an inning ending force play…allowing A.J. Pollock to score the go
ahead run. The Mets had opportunities
all game long as they hit into the 5 dp’s,
3 by the struggling Chris Young and one
each by Lucas Duda and Juan Lagares. The
Mets powered 9 hits on the day, Murphy, Wright and Centeno each with a pair
apiece. Mejia is the hard luck loser falling
to 4-1. Evan Marshall gets the win
(1-0), Addison Reed picks up his 14th save. The Mets now stand at 21-27 and 10-16 at
home. They have now lost 8 of 10 and are only 6-13 in one run games. In the
Night cap the Mets look to salvage game 3 of the series. Daisuke Matsuzaka
(1-0 2.14) faces rookie Zeke Spruill
(0-0 0.00)
Daniel Murphy is a liability. His poor fielding at 2B costs more Ws than anything he does at the plate. A born DH. Speaking of born DHs it's time to demote to Duda too. While they're at it, they should release both of the Youngs. This team is sinking faster than the Titantic and it's time to clean house. With that in mind add Valverde to the exit list as well.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see a team of young and inexperienced players lose 90 games than a bunch of retreads, has been's and never were's. Satin, Lutz, Capt., den Dekker, Dykstra, Black et al can't do any worse than what they replace at Citi Field.
.............well..........anyway, i think Montero possibly gave this franchise 6 innings and 10 strikeouts worth of reasons to remain on this team and not be traded, no matter how much of a joke this offense may be.
ReplyDeleteA sad offensive performance by certain repeat offenders.
ReplyDeleteDeGrom had it in his first start, and now Montero gets it - the opportunity to pitch the game of your life and have nothing to show for it. A Met rite of passage.
ReplyDeleteHarvey had to be virtually the best pitcher in baseball in order to win 9 games last year. Sending out an SOS....

ReplyDeleteYou just got rid of Murphy, Duda, and both Youngs.
Who are you going to play, my Uncle Louis?
This your team. It's a bunch of single hitters with no one left in the higher affiliates that can help.
I did my job... the starters give you 6-7 innings with 2-3 runs per game.
It's going to be a very long season because this is all there is.
Mack-Tell you're Uncle Louis he can relax. I gave the names of the players to call up from AAA put them wherever you like. My point was this team needs a drastic shake-up, if only to shake off the offensive malaise which has set in. I have hard time believing that AAAA'ers like Satin, Lutz, Dykstra, Kirk could do any worse than what we have right now. Of course, you're not going to just dump Murphy, he has value, but he's a poor excuse for a 2B. If it seems radical than so be it. This team needs get young and hungry, playing above its potential instead of below it. For those who think it's too radical please share what you think the Mets should do with this anemic offense???

ReplyDeleteI'll tell you how you did this 'in the old days'.
You do it by making ONE move... a move that should wake everyone up that you mean business.
Like...
designate for assignment 1B Lucas Duda
you're still in control of this move no matter what direction it goes, but the shock valve would serve up notice...
