It's good that Montero is going back to Vegas, he will need to develop a strong secondary pitch and at least an average change up to go with his fastball. And very soon, once Gee returns and Syndergaard is ready, the Mets' rotation will be a very tough one to crack. I'm hoping the FO feels comfortable enough with the surplus to make a deal for some lineup help.
Not to mention that his demotion will coincide with Frank Viola's return to the team as pitching coach. I am confident that Rafael will be fine going forward.....at least he knows what he needs to work on in order to return to the big club.
I'm starting to agree with you about putting Montero in the pen. He's been untouchable first time through the order, then he starts getting into trouble.
Wow. He'll be back - an understatement, but he was OK while here, and hopefully it was a good learning experience.

ReplyDeletegood point about Viola and Montero, though I'm not that sure how long he will stay down... Gee hasn't even picked up a ball yet...
