LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets stretched their winning streak to six games by sweeping a doubleheader against the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton plated three runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from Travis Taijeron, to take the opener, 4-2. Tyler Pill allowed two runs over 5.2 innings to extend his unbeaten streak to seven games. Adam Kolarek notched his second save. In the night cap, the B-Mets hit four home runs and topped the SeaWolves, 6-0. Hansel Robles tossed a complete-game shutout in the win.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Angel Cuan takes the bump for the sixth time this season and first against Erie. The southpaw gave up just one run in a complete game performance in his latest outing, an 8-1 win in game one of a doubleheader last Tuesday, June 10 against the Akron RubberDucks. Cuan was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on September 3, 2007.
ERIE STARTER: RHP Wilsen Palacios makes 13th start of the season and second against the B-Mets. The Guarnas, Venezuela native gave up three runs (two earned) in three innings in a 7-1 loss to New Hampshire last Sunday, June 8. In his first appearance this season at NYSEG Stadium, Palacios gave up two runs in three frames on April 8 in a game that the B-Mets won 7-2. Palacios was singed by Detroit in 2006 at age 16.
WE’RE GOING STREAKING: With the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, the B-Mets have now won six straight, tying their longest winning streak of the season. The team also reached that mark from May 14 - 19. Binghamton has outscored opponents 53-18 during the stretch.
BACK, BACK, BACK...GONE!: The B-Mets smacked a season-high four home runs in game two on Saturday. That brings the squad’s total to 12 during the current six-game winning streak. The B-Mets stand at fourth in the league in that category, five behind league-leading Bowie.
NOT AFRAID OF THE BIG, BAD (SEA)WOLVES: Binghamton has had no problem handling Erie this season. The B-Mets have won six of the first seven games the two have played. In five of those matchups, the SeaWolves have been held to two runs or fewer. The teams are scheduled to meet 15 more times this season.
BURGAMY BLASTING: B-Mets infielder Brian Burgamy went 5-for-6 with a two doubles, and a home run in the twin bill sweep on Saturday. The righty is now 9-for-16 with four extra-base hits, seven runs and nine RBI in his last five games.
LET’S GET IT STARTED: Tyler Pill and Hansel Robles combined to toss 12-2/3 innings in Saturday’s double header. The pair allowed just two runs on seven hits. It continues a stretch of strong starts by B-Mets pitchers. Excluding Hamilton Bennett’s start in game two of last Tuesday’s double header, the unit is 5-0 and has allowed just eight runs in the last 32-2/3 innings.
YOUNG STEPS IN: Major league rehabber Eric Young, Jr. played in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader. The outfielder earned a walk and stole a base in six plate appearances. Young, Jr. is recovering from a right hamstring injury.
MANIFEST DESTINY: Binghamton has dominated Western Division foes this season. The team is 18-10 against the other half of the league, including a 13-4 mark at NYSEG Stadium. Only Akron has more than three wins against the B-Mets in 2014. The team plays it’s next two series against the only western teams it hasn’t seen yet, Richmond and Bowie.
