LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets scored six runs in the first two innings and cruised from there to a 12-4 win over the Bowie Baysox on Friday. The offense knocked Jake Pettit from the game after 1.1 frames during a five-run second inning. Xorge Carrillo went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Dilson Herrerawent 3-for-5 with two RBI. The B-Mets have won ten of their last eleven games.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Steven Matz makes his first career Double-A start today. The Florida State League All-Star made 12 starts with St. Lucie (High-A). He’s coming off a win in his latest outing where he went six innings, allowed just two runs and struck out six. Matz ranked seventh in the Florida State League with a 2.21 ERA. The Stony Brook, New York native was taken by the Mets in the second round of the 2009 draft out of Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York
BOWIE STARTER: LHP Tim Berry takes the hill for the 14th time this season and the first against Binghamton. The southpaw is coming of a win in his last start. He went six innings, allowed just one run and struck out seven in a 6-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators on June 15. Since allowing nine runs in a start on April 27, Berry has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six outings. The San Diego native was taken in the 50th round of the 2009 draft out of San Marcos High School in San Marcos, California.
X COMES THROUGH: Binghamton catcher Xorge Carrillo knocked in four RBI in a 2-for-5 performance on Friday. He has hit safely in four of his last five games, including three multi-hit performances. It’s the seventh time this season a B-Met player has racked up four RBI in a game.
INTO THE WEST: With Friday’s win, Binghamton improves to 22-11 against the Western Division this season. The B-Mets have a winning record against every team in the division and is 10-5 against the top three teams.
BURGAMY STREAKING: Binghamton infielder Brian Burgamy went 2-for-5 on Sunday and extended his hitting streaking to seven games in the process. During that stretch, he is 14-for-26 with five doubles, two home runs and six RBI. It’s the second time this season the reigning Eastern League Player of the Week has hit safely in seven straight games. He also managed the feat from April 9 - 17.
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: Brandon Nimmo, T.J. Rivera and Dilson Herrera are already making an impact on Binghamton through just two games. The trio has combined to go 8-for-23 with six runs and three RBI since joining the team on Thursday.
IN RARE FORM: With a win on Friday, Binghamton is now 10-1 in its last eleven games. The B-Mets are hitting .310 during the stretch with 17 home runs and 78 RBI. On the other side, the pitchers have allowed just over two runs per game. The team has outscored opponents 83-28 during the streak, including giving up two runs or fewer six times.
THE ONES WHO KNOCK: Binghamton and Bowie both rank near the top of the league in many offensive categories. The B-Mets are third in batting average, second in runs, fourth in home runs and third in slugging, on the other side, the Baysox are second in average, third in runs, third in slugging and lead the league in home runs.
YARD SALE: Binghamton hit two home runs on Friday night to bring the total up to nine in the last six games. That includes a four-homer game on June 14 against Erie.
