The Binghamton Mets got a walk-off sacrifice fly from Dilson Herrera to cap a two run ninth inning and beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 4-3, on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets scored three runs in the final two innings. It was the first time the team has won when trailing after eight innings this season.
Darrell Ceciliani started the rally in the ninth with a single against Gregory Infante. Ceciliani stole second and moved to third on a groundout. Travis Taijeron hit a bloop single to center field to score the runner and tie the game. Taijeron was replaced at first base by Kyle Johnson as a pinch runner. Xorge Carrillo walked and Brandon Nimmo singled to load the bases with one out. Herrera came through with an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to score Johnson and win the game for Binghamton.
The early goings of the game went in New Hampshire’s favor, though. Jon Berti began the matchup with a single against Tyler Pill. Newman tallied a base knock to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Andy Burns came through with a sacrifice fly to score the Berti for the 1-0 Fisher Cat lead.
Pill settled in from there. He retired 11 in a row until two outs in the fourth. That’s when Cory Aldridge launched a pitch over to right-center field to put the road team on top, 2-0.
The B-Mets finally cashed in in the bottom of the frame against Daniel Norris. Dustin Lawley started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on T.J. Rivera’s single. A Jayce Boyd walk loaded the bases for Taijeron. He bounced into a ground out to the short stop, but the play brought a run home to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Fisher Cats got the run back in the sixth thanks to Berti. He started the stanza with a single and stole second base. After Newman singled to move the runner to third, Burns hit into a ground out, but a run scored to extend the lead back to two at 3-1.
Herrera energized the home team with in the eighth inning against Tyler Ybarra. The 20-year-old smacked a 2-1 pitch over the left-field wall to cut the lead to 3-2.
Chase Huchingson (2-1) tossed 1-1/3 scoreless innings to close out the game. Infante (0-1) gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning. He had allowed just one through his first 27 frames this season. Tyler Pill gave up three runs on six hits and struck out five in 7-2/3 innings. He extended his unbeaten streak to 13 games.
POSTGAME NOTES: It was the first walk-off win for Binghamton since May 15 against Altoona….Rivera extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single in the fourth….Herrera’s home run was the team 102nd on the year.- team press release
