LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and never recovered in a 5-1 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. Steven Matz gave up a career-high 10 hits and five runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings. Kendall Graveman made his Double-A debut for the Fisher Cats and  allowed just one run in six frames to pick up the win. Jayce Boyd extended his hitting streak to four games with a 2-for-4 performance. The B-Mets had a runner on in eight of nine innings. They committed two errors in the loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Tyler Pill makes his 18th appearance of the season and his 17th start. The lefty hasn’t factored into the decision in each of his last three outings. That includes giving up three runs on six hits and striking out nine in his last start Binghamton lost that game 6-5 at Trenton on Thursday, July 24. The 24-year-old has matched up against New Hampshire three other times in 2014. He’s 1-2 and has given up 17 runs (15 earned) in 19.1 innings in those games. He hasn’t taken a loss since May 5. The Covina, California native was taken by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.

NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTERLHP Daniel Norris toes the rubber for the seventh time this season and his first against the B-Mets. The south paw is coming off a win in his last appearance. He struck out six batters in five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in a 5-3 New Hampshire win over Harrisburg on Thursday, July 24. It was the fourth time this season that he’d allowed two or less runs in a start. He’s struck out 36 batters in 25 innings in 2014. That includes a 10 K game onJune 24 against Portland. The Johnson City, Tennessee native was taken by Toronto in the second round of the 2011 draft.

IN THE RED: Binghamton committed two more errors on Monday to bring their July total to 24. That’s more fielding infractions than any other month this season. The team has committed more than one error five time this month. They are 1-4 in the those games. 19 of those blunders have come in the last 16 outings. Binghamton still ranks fourth in the league in errors committed with 81, nine behind Akron for the league lead at 72.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY:  B-Mets INF Jayce Boyd went 2-for-4 in Binghamton’s series opening loss to New Hampshire on Monday. The first baseman is now batting .347 in July. He has 16 RBI this month after having only 16 in the previous two months combined. He’s slugging .500 in July with two home runs and three doubles. This comes after Boyd slugged just .277 in June. He has a .298 average against left-handed pitching this season.

JACK-ED UP: Binghamton relief pitch Jack Leathersich struck out two more batters in an inning pitching in Monday’sloss to bring his season total up to 74. That comes in just 42.2 innings pitched. The lefty’s gone without a K in just four of his 34 appearances this season. His strikeout total goes along with just 19 walks this season.

THAT’S STRANGE: Binghamton leads the league with 101 home runs on the year, but hasn’t gone yard in the last two games. That ‘s happened just two other times in July. The B-Mets still have five more home runs than anyone else in the league.

HERE COMES THE HOT STEPPER: Binghamton INF Brian Burgamy is 20-for-55 (.364) against New Hampshire this season. He has five home runs and three doubles in 14 in those outings. The slugger’s also walked ten times. As a team, the B-Mets are hitting .283 against the Fisher Cats in 2014.
