This is not a ranked prospect list.
It is what I would do if there was an expansion draft and I had to pick 20 current members of the Mets minor league system to keep around and build an organization on.
Obviously, I consider these players the best at what they do vs. the rest of the players in the system.
Just thought you'd be curious to see where my head was at.
1. C Kevin Plawecki - nobody in this organization, either as a future player or trade chip, is more valuable
2. RHSP Noah
Syndergaard - having a tough year but still the only Mets pitcher that could challenge Matt Harvey for the SP1 slot
3. 2B Dilson Herrera - this is your 2016 second baseman
4. SS Amed Rosario -
- this is your 2018 shortstop

5. LHSP Steven
Matz - the latest you will be Matz enter the Mets rotation is when Jon Niese's contract runs out
6. OF
Brandon Nimmo - the 2016 left fielder
7. RHRP Rafael
Montero - trade chip or future pen specialist
8. OF Michael Conforto - not my choice, but should be ready in 2017
9. RHSP Marcos
Molina - the highest ceiling in the organization
10. LHRP Jack
Leathersich - potentially a future all-star if he can stop walking people
11. SS Wilson Flores - I need someone to play short until Rosario would be ready
12. OF Wuilmer Beccera - wild card future starting outfielder in 2018
13. 3B Dustin Lawley - has power potential to move David Wright to first base
14. 1B Dominic Smith - 2017's first baseman if Wright stays at third
15. RHSP Gabrial
Gnoa - tremendous future trade chip
16. RHSP Michael
Fulmer - everything depends on his future health
17. RHRP Akeel
Morris - looks like the second coming of Leathersich, minus the walks
18. RHRP Jeff
Walters - potentially the best reliever in the system if he heals properly
19. RHSP Robert
Whalen - second highest ceiling to Molina
20. RHRP Cory
Mazzoni - another potential trade chip

What, no Andrew Brown? Just kidding Mack. Good list. Danny Muno, who is not in there, has to be in my top 25. In AA and AAA since June of last year, 616 plate appearances, 105 runs, 77 RBIs, .275 with a .391 on base %, 22 doubles and 17 HRs. "Just" 96 K's (1 for every 6.2 at bats is good for this day and age.)
ReplyDeleteI'd bump Walters down - until he proves he is healthy and can perform at AAA.
Sad to see no Puello in the list. And good to see there are two taylors in the same neighborhood.
Morning Thomas -
ReplyDeleteWell, once again, you've turned my chicken into chicken shit :)
I like Muno but I don't see him as a major league player. It's just me,
You already know my opinion about your obsession with minor league stats.
As for Puello, I consider his a total flop at this point.
I understand your thoughts on Walters, Maybe I should rethink my position on him, but it's just a list.
