Sunday afternoon in Queens, Anthony Recker hit a three run
homer (5) to snap a 2 all tie, the Mets beat the Phillies 6-5. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and the
Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th on a RBI double by
Ryan Howard. The Mets took a 2-1 lead in
the bottom of the 5th on a RBI double by Matt den Dekker and an RBI
single by David Wright. The Phils tied the game at 2 in the 6th when
Ryan Howard clubbed a solo homer his 20th on the year. But in the
bottom of the 6th Recker connected for the three run blast to give the
Mets the lead for good. The Phils made a
game of it with an RBI single by Jimmy Rollins in the 7th and a solo
homer by Domonic Brown (8) in the 8th. Brown went 4 for 4 on the day with the
homer. The Mets took a 6-4 lead in the 8th
when Dilson Herrera hit a seeing eye single up the middle with the infield in
to score Kirk Nieuwenhuis ( For Herrera, his first ML RBI) Wilmer Flores went 3
for 4 and had a few sparklers in the field for the Mets; Wright added two hits
as well. Gee gets the win improving to 6-6 going 6 innings allowing 7 hits 3
runs (all earned) walking 3 and striking out 7. Jeurys Familia gave up the solo
dinger to Brown in the 8th. Jenrry Mejia pitched the 9th
for this 21st save, but did allow an RBI single to Grady Sizemore to
make it a 1 run game. AJ Burnett takes
the loss for the Phils; he falls to 7-15. The Mets take 2 of 3 from the
Phillies. The Mets are 64-73 on the year
and 33-35 at home. Next up the Mets start a 6 game road swing. Labor Day afternoon is the first of 3 in
Miami. Zach Wheeler (9-9 3.44) goes for the Mets, Henderson Alvarez (10-6 2.75) goes for the Fish.
Wilmer getting it done with the bat and the glove to close out August. Let's see what Sept holds. Herrera looking good. Youth rocks!
