Sunday afternoon at Citi Field Madison Bumgarner went the
distance on a 2 hit shutout while Buster Posey and Hunter Pence provided the offense;
the Giants blank the Mets in a laugher, 9-0.
Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and didn’t have a chance as the Giants
tallied 6 runs on 8 hits in 4 2/3 against the Mets starter. The Giants scored 2
in the 3rd, a single run in the 4th and 3 in the 5th
knocking Colon out of the box. Posey went 3 for 4 with this 13th homer of the year. Brando
Belt hit his 12th and Hunter
Pence went 3 for 5 with a pair of homers, 14 and 15 and 4 RBI. Bumgarner was
masterful. A double by Wilmer Flores in the 3rd and a 7th
inning single by David Wright was all the Met offense. Bumgarner walked 1 and struck out 10 in the
game earning his 13th win.
Colon walked none and struck out 5. He falls to 10-9. Buddy Carlyle,
Carlos Torres, Dana Eveland and Josh Edgin mopped up. Torres yielded a pair of
runs, Eveland the other. The Mets trail
in the series 2 games to 1.They now stand at 28-26 at Citi Field and 53-58
overall. Monday afternoon the Mets look for a series split. Dillon Gee
(4-4 3.88) goes for the Mets, Tim Hudson
(8-8 2.71) goes for the Giants.
Flores gets one of the two Met hits today after driving in a pair yesterday. How much you wanna bet he sits tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteD Whit
ReplyDeleteEven better. .....
explain to me why Tejada batted 2nd in the order
but Flores batted 7th.
Collins needs to go immediately
Bob-
ReplyDeleteWell the Mets are doing a fine impersonation of a "dead ball" era team right now so in his mind it makes perfect sense. Any day now I half expect them to break out baggy flannel unis and webless gloves for a turn back the clock to 1914 night.
I love this quote from Terry in regards to when/if the team is considering calling up Noah Syndegaard:
“We all want our young players up here,” Collins said. “But right now, we’re in the hunt. So we’re going to be careful when they come and the role they’re going to have.”
Just another in a long line of WTF TC moments...
As I will point out in tomorrow morning's report, the 'hunt' is just about over...
ReplyDeleteOK.......now that the charade is over (we have been out classed at home by one of the teams we need to catch in the WC race) can we spend the rest of the 2014 season evaluating who will play a role in 2015?
ReplyDeleteGet rid of the Abreaus, the Youngs and other stop gaps! Bring up the kids and get them some experience.
Oh and drop TC while you are at it............
