BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Steven Matz makes his 11th start of the season and his first against Akron. The southpaw took the hard-luck loss in his most recent outing. He tossed seven innings of one-run ball in a 1-0 loss to Reading on Sunday, August 24. Matz has allowed one earned run in his last three starts. That spans a period of 20 innings. Since joining Binghamton in June, the Stony Brook, New York native has walked just 14 batters and has struck out 53 in 61.1 innings. He is 1-2 with a 0.45 ERA in August. NO DOG DAYS FOR DARRELL: Binghamton OF Darrell Ceciliani extended his season-long hitting streak to 11 games on Saturday. He’s hitting .387 (29-for-75) in 18 games in August with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 runs scored. He has a base knock in all but one game this month. I went to last night's game and I have some material for the site this week.
ReplyDeleteSome quick reactions though....
Boy, Nimmo can hit. His outs were loud, solid contact outs.
Herrera is quicker than I previously thought. In his second at bat he got a base hit, stole second base, took third on a bad throw from the catcher and then took home on a bad throw from cf.
He has threatening speed to go along with his decent pop, good glove, and young age.'
He's definitely Top 5.
Lastly....no one is giving TJ Rivera enough credit. He hits and from what I saw he plays pretty solid defense.
GREAT TO GET INSIGHTS LIKE THAT into Nimmo, Herrera, and Rivera, Chris. Poor TJ Rivera...his timing is bad, with so many other quality middle infielder types around in their high minors. All he can do is keep hitting .350 and hope someone notices (besides us).
