LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used at three-run first inning to energize a 5-2 win and complete a sweep of the Akron RubberDucks, on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadim. Steven Matz started for Binghamton and tossed five innings of shutout ball. He surrendered just three hits and struck out six. T.J. Rivera went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brian Burgamy put up a 2-for-3 performance with a double and a run scored. Darrell Ceciliani went 0-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and saw his season-long, 11-game hitting streak come to an end. The postseason-bound B-Mets remain 2.5 games behind Portland for first place in the Eastern Division with nine to play. At 81-52, the team is at its high-water mark of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Rainy Lara takes the hill for the 19th time this season and the second against New Britain. The righty didn’t factor into the decision in his last outing. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits in 3.2 innings on Friday, August 15 at Reading. Binghamton won the game 8-7. In his only other matchup against the Rock Cats in 2014, Lara picked up the victory. He tossed six innings and surrendered just one run on five hits. He also tallied five strikeouts in the 8-3 Binghamton win on June 30. After compiling an ERA of 6.45 in four July starts, Lara has put up a 2.45 ERA in three August outings. The native of Bani, Dominican Republic was signed as a non-drafted free agent on October 31, 2009.

NEW BRITAIN STARTER: LHP Taylor Rogers is on the mound for the  23rd time and the fourth against Binghamton. The southpaw is coming off three straight shutout performances. That includes allowing just three hits in five innings on Wednesday, August 20 against Richmond. The Rock Cats came out on top in that one, 7-0. In four starts against the B-Mets in 2014, Rogers has surrendered nine runs (seven earned) on 17 hits in 18.2 innings. He’s 0-1 with an ERA of 3.38 in those outings. Rogers was taken in the  11th round of the 2012 draft out the University of Kentucky.

HITS ON HITS ON HITS: Binghamton’s nine hit performance on Sunday gave them 90 in their last six games. That stretch includes four games of 15 or more base knocks. The team has scored 41 runs in that time. They’re second in the league in hits with1,231.They have more than ten hits in ten games so far in August.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Binghamton is off to a 3-0 start in it’s final homestand of the regular season. The team is 43-23 at NYSEG Stadium this year. That’s good for the second best mark in the league. The team has won four straight at home and has outscored it’s opponents by a mark of 31-10 in that time.

PUSHING FOR PORTLAND: Binghamton enters Monday 2.5 games back of Portland for first place in the Eastern Division. They have nine games remaining and the Sea Dogs hold the tie-breaker between the two squads. Binghamton’s elimination number stands at seven.

MOWING THEM DOWN: The B-Mets pitching staff struck out 11 more batters on Sunday. They have 35 through the first three games of this homestand. Binghamton’s season total stands at 1,026. That’s good for second in the Eastern League.

SOME CAT ALLERGIES: After starting the season 4-0 against New Britain, the B-Mets are just 2-6. That includes on the two times they’ve been swept in 2014, May 30 - June 1 in Connecticut. The B-Mets hold the advantage at NYSEG Stadium with a 5-2 record.
