LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets split a doubleheader with the New Britain Rock Cats, on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The team fell in game one, 5-1.Gabriel Ynoa tossed a complete-game seven innings and struck out seven, but surrendered five runs in the loss. In game two, the B-Mets scored two runs in the fifth inning to propel a 3-2 victory. The team scored all three runs without the aid of an RBI. Paul Sewald picked up the win in his Double-A debut. Dario Alvarezstruck out three and earned his first Double-A save. Hansel Robles made his first start since mid-July and struck out six in 3.2 innings.
BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Tyler Pill makes his 22nd appearance and his 21st start. The righty is coming off of three straight wins. That includes his last outing when he tossed five innings and surrendered just two runs in a 12-3 Binghamton win over Akron on Friday, August 22. Pill has made three other starts against the Rock Cats this season. He has not factored into the decision in the previous three matchups. The Covina, California native has surrendered seven runs on 20 hits and has 17 strikeouts in 17.1 frames against New Britain this season. He his tied for second in the league with 113 strikeouts. Pill was taken by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.

NEW BRITAIN STARTER: RHP Cole Johnson is on the mound for the 47th time this season, but just his second start. The righty worked an inning in his last appearance and didn’t give up a run on one hit out of the bullpen. The Rock Cats won that game against Altoona on Sunday, August 24. Johnson has made three other appearances against Binghamton this season, all of which have come in relief. He’s 0-3 and has given up seven runs on nine his in a combined 4.2 innings in those outings. The Appleton, Wisconsin native was taken by Minnesota in the 44th round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Notre Dame.

POWER OUTAGE: Binghamton leads the league with 121 home runs on the year, but hasn’t hit one in their last five games. That’s tied for their second longest drought of the season. They also went five outings without a long ball from May 2 - 5. B-Mets INF/OF Dustin Lawley is second on the team with 20 home runs, but hasn’t hit one since August 6 (14 games).

WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES: Binghamton enters Wednesday having already clinched a playoff spot and are just two games back of Portland for first place in the Eastern Division. The B-Mets have won 11 of their last 14 games, but have their elimination number down to four with six games remaining. The Sea Dogs hold  the tiebreaker between the squads by winning the season series 12-9.

THREE MORE: If Binghamton goes 3-3 over their final six games, they will tie a franchise record for wins at 86. That mark was set last season with the team won the Eastern Division title. The B-Mets are 51-23 since June 10 and are in the postseason in back-to-back years for the first time in franchise history.

T.J. ON A TEAR: B-Mets INF T.J. Rivera went 1-for-3 in game one of yesterday’s doubleheader to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He is hitting .586 (17-for-29) in that time. That includes six multi-hit performances and three games with three base knocks.

HOME COOKING: Binghamton is off to a 5-1 start to its final homestand of the season. That includes opening the stretch with a three-game sweep of Akron over the weekend. The B-Mets are 45-24 at NYSEG Stadium this season. That’s good for the best mark in the Eastern League. The team is 7-3 in the Southern Tier against New Britain.
