LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets gave up a combined eight runs in the sixth through eighth innings in a 8-2 loss to the Bowie Baysox, on Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. Steven Matz allowed just one-unearned run in six innings and took the hard-luck loss. Darrell Ceciliani went 2-for-4 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to six games. Xorge Carrillo put up his 11th multi-hit game of the season. Adam Kolarek and Jon Velasquez combined to give up seven runs on eight hits in two innings out of the bull pen.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill makes his 19th appearance of the season and his 18th start. The Covina, California native didn’t factor into the decision in his last outing. He gave up three runs on six hits and struck out five in 7.2 innings in a 4-3 Binghamton loss to New Hampshire on Tuesday, July 29. Pill had one of his best performances of the year in his only other appearance against Richmond. He tossed eight shutout innings and struck out nine to pick up the win on June 19. He was also 3-fo-3 at the plate with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. The righty hasn’t taken a loss in his last 13 appearances with the B-Mets. That dates back to May 5. The Cal State-Fullerton product was taken by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft.
RICHMOND STARTER: LHP Adalberto Mejia toes the rubber for the 18th time this season and the first time against Binghamton. The southpaw didn’t factor into the decision in his last appearance. He went four-scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in a 5-2 Richmond win over Harrisburg on Tuesday, July 29. It was the fifth time this season Mejia has gone four innings or less. The Bonao, Dominican Republic native has allowed just three hits and hasn’t surrendered a run in each of his last two outings. He was signed by San Francisco as an international free agent on February 1, 2011.
THE ONE WHO KNOCKS: Binghamton pitcher Tyler Pill gets a chance to hit for the seventh time this season. He’s 7-for-13 (.538) on the year with a double, a home run, five runs scored and four RBI. That includes a 3-for-3 performance against Richmond on June 19. He finished a triple shy of the cycle during that outing. Pill his riding a four-game hitting streak.
SO LONG, FAREWELL: Tuesday starts a stretch in which Binghamton plays 13 of their next 16 games away from NYSEG Stadium. That includes visits to Richmond, Harrisburg and Reading for the first time. Overall, the team wraps up the regular season playing 17 of 28 on the road. They are just 28-26 away from the Southern Tier in 2014, compared to 39-21 at home.
STREAKING C: Binghamton OF Darrell Ceciliani went 2-for-4 on Sunday night to extend his hitting streak to six games. He’s 10-for-24 (.417) during that time four runs scored and four extra-base hits. He’s raised his average from .268 to .279 in that time.
INTO THE WEST: The B-Mets are in the midst of a stretch in which they play 23 of 32 against teams from the Western Division. They are 33-18 against those squads this season and 15-9 on the road.
STICK WITH WHAT WORKS: Binghamton dominated their only other matchup with Richmond this season in a three-game sweep at NYSEG Stadium in June. The B-Mets hit 29-for-97 (.299) in those games and outscored the Flying Squirrels 17-2 during the series. Binghamton pitchers gave up 15 hits in 27 innings. They struck out 23 batters and walked just three. These teams matchup six more times this season, all of which are on the road.
