| Marichal blanks Mets |
New York’s recent dominance against the California trio of
NL West teams came to screeching halt as Juan Marichal and the Giants blanked
the Metsies, 5-0. The Giants jumped on the Mets early, scoring four runs in the
1st off Met starter Gary Gentry. Willie McCovey singled in a run and
Bobby Bonds followed with a 3-run circuit blast-giving San Francisco a lead
they never relinquished.
Chicacgo stopped their losing skid, edging Atlanta, 2-1. New
York fell to 4 back of the Cubs in the
NL East.
