Reports out of Kansas City are that the Royals have become front runners for the services of Bartolo Colon.

What do the Mets want? In a word, value. The 41-year-old Colon has pitched well, and the Mets are targeting both salary relief and a decent return in prospects.
Last night, after word spread that Colon had cleared waivers, the question circulating around the game was how much of the pitcher’s $11 million salary the Mets would absorb. In July, we reported that the team was willing to eat about $2 million to facilitate a deal, and nothing substantial has changed since
Possible trade targets could be OF Jorge Bonifacio or SP Kyle Zimmer

Doubt KC would give up a top 5 prospect for Colon. I think the Mets would probably get a better prospect based on the amount kicked in towards Bartolo's contract. 2 mill? Decent prospect. 3 mill? Better prospect.
ReplyDeleteTheir farm is certainly better than the Angels'
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that the KC farm is much stronger than the Angels' system, I don't think we are getting anyone in their top five (hopefully I am wrong of course). The player that I would target if we are able to get into their top five, is Raul Mondesi Junior. He appears to be the real deal at SS and could be the long term answer there. I would think that someone like Elier Hernandez could be a realistic target as a high ceiling young player.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, besides Mondesi or Zimmer, the Royal really have NO ONE I'd want. I like the potential of AA Shortstop Orlando Calixte a bit, possibly Christian a inform or take a chance that Bubba Starling can blossom maybe.
