Mets Minor League Player of the Day: St Lucie RHSP Seth Lugo.
Honorable Mention: Savannah SP John Gant & Kingsport SP Persio Reyes. (Perhaps they should be Co-Players of the Day.)

 
 

Albuquerque (61-79) overcomes Las Vegas (80- 62) 9-6.

Cory Mazzoni: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 5 H, (HR) 0 BB, 10 K.
John Lannan: 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, 0 BB.
Gonzalez Germen: (BS, 1) (L, 3-1) 1.0 IP, 5 R, 3 H, (2 HR) 3 BB, 2 K.

Matt Reynolds: 2-5, RBI.
Andrew Brown: 2-3, 2 HR, BB, 3 RBI, 2 R.
Cesar Puello: 2-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, R.

 

 

Richmond (76-63) slips past Binghamton (83-56) 2-1.

Steven Matz, (L, 6-5) who certainly pitched well enough to win, but instead took the loss: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 10 K. (He could sue his offense for non-support.)
Paul Sewald was effective, but the horse was already out of the barn: 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, 4 K.
Chase Hutchingson was equally effective: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K.

T.J. Rivera: 2-4. 
Kyle Johnson: 1-4, 2B, R

 

 

St. Lucie (75-61) stops Palm Beach (75-62) 3-1.

Seth Lugo (W, 8-3) was at the top of his game: 7.0 IP, R, 4 H, 2 BB, 10 K.
Jake Kuebler (S, 2) obviously was, as well: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K.

L.J. Mazzilli: 2-4, R, SB.
Jairo Perez: 2-4, HR, RBI, R.
Philip Evans: 2-4, 2 2B.
Gavin Cecchini: 2-4, 3B, RBI.

 

 

Savannah (84-49) nips Rome (54-83) 6-5.

SAL All Star John Gant (W, 11-5) was commanding: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K.
Ricky Knapp: 2.1 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 K.
Darwin Frias: (S, 4) 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K.

Jorge Rivero: 1-5, HR, 2 RBI, R.
Victor Cruzado: 1-3, BB, 2 R, SB.
Colton Plaia: 1-4, HR, RBI, R.

Kingsport (34-34) tops Elizabethton (38-30) 5-2.

Persio Reyes (W, 2-0) pitched a strong 7.0 innings: R, 3 H, 3 BB, 9 K. (In his 3rd year with Kingsport, Reyes is showing the form that brought him stateside after a stellar 2011 season in the DSL. His ERA is now 1.34.)
Blake Taylor: 0.2 IP, R, 2 H, BB.
Alex Palsha: (S, 1) 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB. (After converting 10 of 11 saves in the GCL, Palsha picked up his first in as many tries in the Appy.)

Leon Canelon: 1-4, 2B, BB, 2 R.
Oswaldo Caraballo: 1-4, 2 RBI.

  1. Lugo is joined in the 10 K club by Mazzoni (10 in 6 innings) and Matz (10 in 5 innings). WOW.

    Jairo Perez having one heckuva season - too bad he missed those several weeks with injury - would've been really cool to see what he might have done full year. .361/.392/.560 in 62 games.

    Amed finishing on a strong note. Good to see.
