Burgamy, Peavey Earn Team Honors
BINGHAMTON, NY – Prior to their final home game of the regular season, the Binghamton Mets recognized a pair of players for their key contributionss. Greg Peavey earned the nod as Pitcher of the Year and Brian Burgamy was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Peavey, 26, put together his best career season at Double-A in his third go-around with the B-Mets. The Vancouver, Washington native has gone 11-3 with a 2.94 ERA entering his final start of the season. Including a victory with the Las Vegas 51’s, Peavey notched a career-high 12 victories in his fourth professional season. The highlight of Peavey’s game early in the year when he tossed a two-hit, shutout against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 7.
Burgamy, 33, adds another honor to a season already highlighted my numerous accolades. The utility fielder was a Mid-Season and Postseason Eastern League All-Star.
Entering Thursday’s game, Burgamy led the team and ranked second in the league with 23 home runs. His 75 RBI put him third in the league while his .505 slugging percentage puts him fifth in the league.
Burgamy, Peavey and the playoff-bound B-Mets (83-54) conclude their five-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats on Thursdaynight before venturing to Richmond, Virginia for the final series of the regular season. The club opens the Eastern Division Championship Series on Wednesday against the Portland Sea Dogs.
