BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Greg Peavey is on the mound for the 19th time this season and his fourth against Portland. The righty didn’t factor into the decision in his last outing. He tossed eight innings and allowed just two runs on six hits in a 5-3 Binghamton loss to New Britain on Thursday, August 28. In three other appearances against the Sea Dogs this season, Peavey is 1-1 and has surrendered 10 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits in 18.1 innings. He has 16 strikeouts in those games. The Vancouver, Washington native finished fourth in the league in ERA at 2.90 and second in WHIP at 1.03. The 26-year-old was taken by the Mets in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State University.

PORTLAND STARTER: RHP Justin Haley toes the rubber for the sixth time his season and the first against Binghamton. The righty is coming off three straight wins. That includes tossing seven scoreless innings and striking out nine in his last outing against Harrisburg on Saturday, August 30. Haley has gone at least six frames in all of his starts with the Sea Dogs. He has pitched a shutout three times in those appearances, including his last two. He surrendered just four earned runs in 31.2 innings in the month of August. The  23-year-old was taken by Boston in the sixth round of the 2012 draft out of Fresno State University.

T.J. STEPS UP: Binghamton INF T.J. Rivera hammered a three-run, walk-off home run on Wednesday to lift the B-Mets to the game-one victory. It was part of a 4-for-5 night for Rivera with two doubles, three runs scored and five RBI. Since joining Binghamton on June 19, the 25-year-old has the best average in the Eastern League at .358. That’s 17 points higher than any other player.

B-METS/SEA DOGS SEASON SERIES: Portland was the only team in the Eastern League to beat Binghamton in their season series. The B-Mets dropped 12 of the 21 meetings. However, the boys from the Southern Tier have one six of the last eight meetings this season, including playoffs.

WHAT A RELIEF: B-Mets reliever Hansel Robles worked 2.1 scoreless innings on Wednesday and struck out four batters. Since transitioning to the bullpen on July 19, Robles has 30 strikeouts in 23.2 innings (13 appearances).

HERE ONE MINUTE, GONE ANOTHER: Binghamton has said good-bye to three players in the last two weeks. First, INF Dilson Herrera had his contract selected by New York (NL) on Friday. Then, C Juan Centeno and LHP Dario Alvarez were added by New York. Centeno had a hit in 12 of his last 14 games with Binghamton, while Herrera was batting .340 with 30 extra-base hits. Alvarez had not allowed a run in five Double-A appearances.

NYSEG NOSTALGIA:  Including the postseason, Binghamton is 46-26 at NYSEG Stadium in 2014. That ties Portland for the best mark in the Eastern League. They have won five straight in the Southern Tier against the Sea Dogs.
