September 1st 2014 - Marlins 9, Mets 6

Monday In Miami, the Mets committed 6 errors as the Marlins beat the Mets 9-6. Actually the Mets kind of beat themselves.  The Marlins got off to a 2-0 lead via a solo homer by Giancarlo Stanton (34) in the first and an RBI triple by  Marcel Ozuna in the 2nd.  The Mets came roaring back scoring 4 times in the top of the third. Dilson Herrera clubbed his first major league homer to make it 2-1, David Wright then doubled home Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares to make it 3-2, Curtis Granderson came home on a throwing error by Ozuna .  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and struggled. In the 5th the Marlins knocked Wheeler out of the box scoring 3 times. A throwing error by David Wright got them going. Casey McGehee hit an RBI double, Garrett Jones followed with an RBI single knocking Wheeler out. Buddy Carlyle came on and allowed the 5th run to score on a single by Ozuna.  In the 6th Herrera hit a 2 run triple to give the Mets a 6-5 lead. However, in the 6th a throwing error by Herrera lead to the Marlins tying the game at 6.  The in the 8th, two throwing errors by Jeurys Familia another throwing error by Travis d’Arnaud  lead to 3 runs scoring for Miami, the final run being walked home by Eddie Goeddel.  Herrera had a breakout day at the plate going 2 for 4 with his first homer and triple and 3 RBI but added 2 throwing errors and now has 3 errors in his brief stint with the Mets.  d’Arnaud  had a pair of hits as well. Wheeler went 4 2/3 allowing 5 hits 5 runs (2 earned) he walked 2 and struck out 8.  He gets the no decision, Familia takes the loss falling to 2-4.  A.J. Ramos gets the win for Miami, Steve Cishek notched his 32nd save. The Mets fall to 64-74 on the year and are 31-39 on the road. Tuesday night is game two of this three game series. Jonathon Niese (7-10  3.48) goes for the Mets, Brad Penny (1-0  5.40) goes for the Marlins.

  1. Dilson's errors will move to a norm, but it is exciting to see this 20 year old brandish a mean stick so far.
