Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, the Mets completed a 3 game
sweep of the Braves with a 10-2 win. The
sweep brings the Mets to 4 games under .500 with 6 games to go. Jacob deGrom
pitched for the Mets and was dominant once again going 6 innings he allowed 3
hits 2 runs (1 earned) he walked 3 and struck out 10. Offensively Anthony Recker made the most his
Sunday start going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI, Lucas Duda added 3 hits and Ruben Tejada
hit his 4th homer of the season while driving in 2. Kirk Nieuwenhuis added 2 hits and an RBI,
Curtis Granderson continued his late season surge going 2 for 3 with 3 runs
scored. deGrom improves to 9-6 with the
win and sees his ERA drop to 2.63. Buddy
Carlyle, Diasuke Matsuzaka and Erik Goeddel each tossed scoreless innings in
relief. The Mets sweep the Braves in Atlanta for the first time since 2007, and
they find themselves at 76-80 just ½ game behind the Braves for 2nd
place in the NL east. Monday is an off
day for the Mets, Tuesday the Mets are in Washington to start a 3 game set with
the Nationals. Bartolo Colon (14-12 4.02) goes for the Mets, Tanner Roark
(14-10 2.85) goes for Washington.
So nice to see the Mets clobber the Braves and eliminate them on the same day.

ReplyDeleteThe surge of the unlikely: Grandy hot, Ruben flexing muscle, Recker padding the BA, and Kirk continuing to do enough to make you wonder if he might be on the cusp of real serviceable big league play.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, deGrom, the best pitcher on the planet not named Kershaw (sorry, Harvey). ROY better be a slam dunk for him
