Monday night at Citi Field the Mets scored two runs in the
bottom of the 9th inning as they come from behind to beat the
Rockies 3-2. The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Lucas
Duda’s line RBI double through the shift made it to the right field corner
scoring Kirk Nieuwenhuis from first. In the top of the 2nd Michael
Cuddyer in his first at bat off the DL hit a long solo homer (7) off Met
starter Jonathon Niese to tie it. In the 8th against Vic Black, also
just off the DL, Nolan Arenado smoked
his 18th homer to make it 2-1 Rockies. In the bottom of the 9th against
former closer LaTroy Hawkins, Travis d’Arnaud led off with a double. He was
pinch run for by Eric Young Jr. Curtis Granderson then hit a triple to
right-center to tie the game at 2 with no outs. Then Wilmer Flores hit a sac
fly to center to score Granderson with the winning run. Niese went 6 2/3 allowing 8 hits 1 run (earned) he
walked 1 and stuck out 7. Carlos Torres pitched a scoreless 9th and
picks up the win; he improves to 7-5. Hawkins takes the loss he falls to
3-3. Jordan Lyles started for the
Rockies and pitched 6 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. For the Mets it’s their 6th walk
off win on the year as they improve to 69-75 and are now 34-35 at home. Tuesday night is game two of the series, Jacob
deGrom (7-6 2.79) looks for win #8.
Christian Bergman (2-2 5.23) goes for
Colorado.
