Interested to see if Cesar is on one of the Dominican teams out of the gate
ReplyDeleteIm interested to see if Cesar is on the Mets team out of the gate come April.
ReplyDeleteThat is why I am interested to see if he gets right to the winter leagues, if not even for auditioning for other teams in the event of a DFA

ReplyDeleteThe first DWL game is tonight....so hopefully the teams posts their rosters some time today and I'll write up a post listing any Mets participating
Puello played with the Toros last year and struggled in the 41 games he played hitting only .200
ReplyDeleteI agree with a previous commenter/poster in past article who stated that why not simply replace EY Jr with puello on the 25 man........puello has the speed, more power and overall higher upside anyway.......besides, how many '5 tool' prospects for Mets can continue to be a bust, right? (don't answer that lol)
ReplyDelete@Ernest
ReplyDeleteWhile it sounds good in theory, EYJ pretty much had no role on the Mets after Den Dekker re-emerged. He was only being used as a late inning pinch runner. EYJ is a goner irregardless.
The only way Puello gets on the 25 man roster is to supplant Kirk Nieuwenheis as the 5th OF.
@soto
ReplyDeleteI here ya, but part of me still sees Kirk and den dekker as being two of the same.....they have some different traits/skills, but I don't know if both should continue on here. I guess, if mets sign a one year right handed OF bat, then maybe just keep both until Nimmo is called up, but.............
@Ernest
ReplyDeleteI agree.....that's why I DO think Puello will supplant Kirk.
Because A) the club wont want to lose him via waivers and B) I think Kirk can pass through waivers without being claimed.
Puello excels vs lefties. In 2013 and 2014, .356 in 185 at bats. His 2013 splits vs. lefties in less than 100 PAs: .421/.483/.842.
ReplyDeleteIn his 2014 struggle year, in about 125 PAs, .312/.409/.532.
Given his speed and defensive prowess, keeping him on the 25 man as a lefty platoon OF, rather than letting him go bye-bye, seems to really make sense.
So he should play winter ball and erase last winter's weak performance, and then win that 25th spot.
Based on the rule of things, Puello hasn't earned a slot in Queens yet.
ReplyDeleteChris--
ReplyDeleteI agree that Kirk is a lesser risk for a waiver claim than Cesar, but I see that choice only having to be made if the NYM sign a FA OF.
If we're stuck with Grandy* in LF then I'd like to see den D & Puello get as many AB's in RF (occ. CF for dD) as possible. That would leave a 5th OF spot for Kirk until Nimmo pushes one of them out..
*I look at Granderson's spilts batting 5/6 vs. everywhere else and find it amazing.
----- 5/6 - other
G 36 - 120
AB 123 - 441
BA .350 - .235
OBP .420 - .325
SLG .610 - .389
OPS 1.030-.714
and batting 5/6 more RBI (27) than K (26)!!
It's possible that the correlation of of his vaunted streaks & batting position are just the vagaries of randomness--a rogue wave off the coast of S.Africa, but it almost makes the resignation of his presence tolerable.
I keep flipping on this, but at this instant I'm more for trading one/more of the "expendables" for an A/A+ high ceiling bat, than a Fab 5 for more mlb-ready hot prospect.
Where is Dilson playing this winter? last year, as I recall, he played in a Colombian Winter League for 40 + games.
ReplyDelete@Tom
ReplyDeleteIt was reported that Dilson Herrera was expected to play winter ball for the Tigres de Licey in the DWL.
DWL rosters have still not been posted online outside of 1 player in the entire league.
Jesus Colome apparently is the only DWL this year lol.
