Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that "word has spread" that the Red Sox could make Yoenis Cespedes available for trade this offseason.
General manager Ben Cherington said last month that the team would like to discuss an extension with Cespedes, but it seems the outfielder might prefer to play out the final year of his contract before testing free agency. Cafardo also notes that Cespedes doesn't really want to play right field "or work on his defense." The Red Sox figure to make at least one trade this winter given their glut of outfielders, and it sounds like Cespedes might be the one to go. Oct 19 - 1:00 PM

Mack - The Mets need to jump all over this. His current contract calls for him to be paid $10.5mil in 2015 and then he's scheduled for free agency.

The Mets have the young pitchers to get this done and then they would have 12 months to negotiate an extension to this contract.

He's welcome to play left field with the Mets and not working on his defense would let him fit in well with his new team,

  1. I know it's far-fetched, but talk had been that the Red Sox might include Cespedes in a trade for Stanton.

Depending on the cost, trading for Cespedes could be a win-win. We could deal for him and then try to flip him to Miami. If that doesn't work, we'd still have a power hitter for next year... If we're out of it he could return something of value or we could collect picks when he leaves as a FA.

  2. My guess is that Boston will do everything they can to send him to a National League team so this decision doesn't come back to bite them.

  3. Yoenis would give the Mets desirable pop. Not great in the OBP Dept, but can't have everything.

Slip Dekker to 4th OF if that happens.

I'm OK with that if we don't have to give up too much pitching (Gee, Montero?)

  4. I'd still rather go for Cuddyer, but if MC is not available Cespedes could fit nicely--- RH power bat, proven ML player, only locked in for a year.
