Joe Maddon

Jon Heyman has reported that there is no chance in hell that Joe Maddon will be offered a contract as the manager of the New York Mets. Why would they do something as stupid as bring aboard one of the best managers in the game? Is the excuse that they are already paying Terry Collins? So, it’s okay to replace Chris Young Jr. but not Collins?

Nothing I write here is against TC. It’s just that you only get so many times to employ one of the best in the game. Someone is going to scoop Maddon up… probably Theo Epstein and the Cubs… and my guess is you’ll see a contract in the 3-5 year range.

This is a missed opportunity for Sandy Alderson and the Mets. Alderson has done a decent job of rebuilding the Mets system, which has already begun to pay dividends in the second half of the 2014 season. Hiring Maddon before you start calling the agents that represent free agents this off season could have easily change how one of those players though about playing for the Mets.
