The Pittsburgh Pirates DFA'd 1B Ike Davis tonight.
Sandy Alderson has now traded John Buck, Marlon Byrd, and Davis for Dilson Herrera, Vic Black, and Blake Taylor.
All three players traded to the Pirates are now no longer on the team.

ReplyDeleteWhile gloating about "winning trades" with the Pirates, note that The Pirates have made the playoffs during the past two years while the Mets have been "stuck in 70's".
ReplyDeleteIt was no secret to the Pirates that Buck and Byrd would provide them less over time than Dilson Herrera.
The Trade Math ahead is not to "Win Trades" but to make some trades that help add Wins.
Ike will be lucky to hit 50 more homers over what remains of his career. His being DFA'd is not a vote of confidence. He had a terrible 1st half 2012, terrible 2013, and a pretty poor 2014. Can't blame Bucs.

All I pointed out was the FACT that the Mets had (so far) traded players that had no future on the Mets, for hopefully, future productive players, and they now seem to have no more productivity level on your 'playoff team"
I know you 'get around' in the blog world... try to have a little more respct for what I do here.
Mack--- I may have misrepped your comments. There is quite a bit of discussion about "winning trades"--it's vacuous and doesn't address the reality of those trades. I've obviously misunderstood your position--- that's never happened to me before....ok, may be twice!

Yeah, I had no position... just listed the facts
while the Mets may have won those trades. Black and Herrera are great. If im the pirates I still make that trade. getting to the playoffs after not being there for twenty years without giving up 1 of your top five prospects is a good return. 5 years from now it might not look it if herrera pans out but sometimes you have to make a trade that you know is bad long term to get in the playoffs.
