  1. Jace Peterson is a gifted defensive player with some offensive upside, but now he's stuck behind Simmons unless they plan to shift him to 2B. I saw him several times playing for the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas.

  3. Nice haul for 1 year of Upton. Maybe BJ Upton is the low-level player, although that may be too kind of a label.

Braves are essentially punting on this season and are preparing for a run next season.

John Hart isn't afraid to make a move.

  4. Mack, or Reese, or others:

Given what the Braves acquired in that trade, what do you think we could have legitimately traded to get him instead, and why would or would not that have been worth it for the Mets to do?

  5. Thomas -

First of all, this is a HORRIBLE trade for the Braves. They said they were not going to trade Upton unless they get a better deal than the Heyward one. They didn't.

The Braves accepted 4 players here, none of which project to be a star in the game. Fried would have the most talent, but he's having a hard time staying healthy and he's a long way away.

I would have offered Rafael Montero, Brandon Nimmo, Gab Ynoa and one more low-A player

  6. For a one year rental of Upton with nowhere to play he, Lagares, Granderson and Cuddyer? I don't know that I would have done that.

  7. Mack,

I think that's a bit over the top. Dustin Peterson probably has a similar ceiling to his brother D.J. Peterson who is highly touted in Seattle.

Jace Pederson is a major league ready SS who has a career minor league line of .287/.381/.411.

Mallex Smith is coming off a strong season (.310/.403/.432 w/ 88 SBs in A+).

I think these are all high upside guys for only 1 season of Upton.

  8. I just got an email from the El Paso Chihuahuas about a benefit event in January with the guest speaker of one A.J. Preller. I think I may have to fork over the $75 and attend.

  9. bob,
You're placing the blame at the wrong level. Alderson is doing what he can with the budget the Won'tpons are allowing him. His lack of yrading is due to two things: a desire to preserve our prospects so this team canstay competitive for a long time, and the Won'tpons "collegial"approach to making decisions, which involves talking everything to death until the trade/issue has passed them by. You can't blame Alderson for the owners he has to work for. How would YOU like to be the one working for Jeffy?

unfortunately there is no way to tell whether that is true or not.
both Alderson & the Wilpons claim it is not true

  11. Had this trade happened before Cuddyer, then i'd have been very displeased they lost out. Wonder if Sandy now regrets early signing of Cuddyer

  12. Think the Braves would have traded Upton in the Division? Wouldn't they have wanted more of a premium from us?
