MLB.com has begun released there annual 2015 prospect rankings. MLB Pipeline has already reviewed the top right handers, left handers, catchers, and first basemen. Today we take a look at second basemen. Among them is 20 year old Dilson Herrera, who rapidly ascended to the MLB last year and looks to be in line to replace Daniel Murphy in 2016.
"Herrera has always shown a knack for hitting, with a balanced swing and an ability to make consistent hard contact to all fields. He has excellent bat speed and doesn't strike out a ton, with more power than you'd expect given his small frame. Herrera is a solid runner who can steal a base as well. Herrera has played both shortstop and second in the past, but his defensive tools, from his arm to his actions, will work much better on the right side of the infield."
Wow nice to see 1 player at each position in the top 10.

ReplyDeleteI don't know if Rosario is going to be able to sneak in since no one from last year's SS list graduated to the MLB.
I can see Nimmo potentially sneaking in there though at either 9 or 10. I could also see Conforto jumping over Nimmo and sneaking in at 9 or 10.
Also.....(and this is a real long shot)
ReplyDeleteOutside of the top 3-4 guys 3B is a position of weakness in the minors. Jhoan Urena could have an opportunity to sneak in at #10 but again.....it's a real long shot.
No way Rosario makes it onto the SS list because SS is crazy deep in the minors right now.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else have issue with this 2B list? Even if you're bearish on Herrera, how do you have him below Forrest Wall and Micah Johnson? Do they really like speed that much that their inferior hit tools puts them ahead of Dilson? I don't get these lists.
By the way, here's my shortstop list for tomorrow:

With Mondesi right there...he could slot in anywhere from 7-10 but I think the above guys are better at this point. Mondesi still has a lot of issues to work through
When I look at Smith, Herrera and possibly Nimmo and Conforto on these lists, I am very happy about the future of this franchise
