4-18-15 - Minor League Recap
Destruction in Vegas. News at 11.
Minor League Players of The Night - Reynolds and Herrera for 7 combined hits, inlcuding 4 doubles, and 2 walks in The 51s annihilation of Fresno. Which one replaces Murphy, and how soon?
Honorable Mention - Travis Taijeron's two homers and a single and 5 RBIs in the same destruction of Fresno. Kevin Plawecki''s 5 RBIs earn him kudos as well.
AAA - Las Vegas - (5-5) 17 - Fresno (7-3) 4
RHSP Noah Syndergaard - wild, and yanked after 82 pitches. 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 4.70. 5 walks?
RHRP Hansel Robles, 2 perfect innings, 4 K, 0.00
LHRP Jack Leathersich, 2 more walkless innings, 2 run HR, 2 H, 3 K, 3.60
2B Dilson Herrera - 3-5, 2 2B, 3 R, 1 BB, .324
SS Matt Reynolds - 4-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, .317
RF Travis Taijeron - 3-5, 2 HR (3), 5 RBI
C Kevin Plawecki - 2-5, 2 2B, 5 RBI, .229
A 10 run seventh erased memories of another disappointing Thor start.
17 runs, 19 hits, 6 walks. I know, Vegas is hitting like mad due to it being a hitters' league...how about they just have great hitting. Period.
Am I the only one who notices Leather Jack got the message, and now never walks anyone? The 2 run shot is the only scoring he's allowed this year.
And Hansel Robles is showing Jennry Mejia how the heck it is done, with continued dominant relief pitching in that same hitter's league. Mejia may find himself unable to dislodge Robles from the Mets' pen 70 games from now.. I know, he has to make the Mets first...but he looks close.
AA - Harrisburg (4-6) 7 - Binghamton (6-4) 5
RHSP Luis Cessa - 4.0-IP, 4-H, 0-ER, 4-K, 1-BB, 0.00
2B T.J. Rivera - removed from game with leg injury
SS Josh Rodriguez - 3-4, 1-R, 1-RBI, .292
RHRP Vic Black - (rehab assignment) 1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 0.00
RHSP Paul Sewald - 1.1-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 2-K, 1-BB, 0.00
Mack - Sewald was the #20 prospect on my list earlier this year. This was his third outing for the young season and he has now pitched 5.1 scoreless innings. My hope is he can work his was to Las Vegas for the second half of the season so we can see how he would hold up out there. I've currently have him as the third relief prospect behind Akeel Morris and Jack Leathersich.
RHRP - Domingo Tapia - 0.2-IP, 1-H, 4-ER, 0-K, 4-BB, 43.20
Mack - this easily could be the last time we see Tapia. He seems to have lost complete control of his game... I would DL him for some sore arm issue and send him back to Extended Camp to see if the coaches there could figure this one out... the problem is it just might be heavily in his head also and this is probably a lost season, or career, for Tapia.
A+ - St. Lucie (6-4) 7 - Ft. Myers (4-6) 5
RHSP Logan Taylor - 4.0-IP, 4-H, 3-R, 3-K, 4-BB, 7.00
DH Matt Oberste - 3-5, 1-R, 1-HR (1), 3-RBI, .267
LF Michael Conforto - 3-4, 2-R, 1-HR (3), 1-RBI, .333
Mack - This was Conforto's third home run in 10 games for St. Lucie and he's starting to show the kind of pop the team expected out of him when they drafted him in the first round. It's still far too early to project what level he will finish the season at.
A - Charleston (6-4) 6 - Savannah (3-6) 4
RHSP Casey Meisner - 6.0-IP, 4-H, 1-R, 8-K, 2-BB, 2.45
CF John Mora - 1-3, 2-R, 2-BB, .345
Meisner was brilliant, but sabotaged by the Gnats pen. A year ago, Morris and Alvarez were there, and Casey would have had a W.
On another nite, Meisner is player of the day. Not today. Even Michael Conforto couldn't crack honorable mention today despite his terrific game.
AKEEL MORRIS ALERT: He (gasp) allowed 2 hits and a run in 2 innings. He is human after all. But he still struck out 4 dudes. So he is still mostly super-human.
Its a nice problem to have with Herrera and Reynold in AAA off to a great start. Murphy's days as a Met r numbered.
