April 19th 2015 -- Mets 7, Marlins 6

The streak is now 8!

Sunday was Harvey day for the Mets and behind Matt Harvey’s pitching and a 7 run 4th inning, the Mets hang on for dear life and notch their 8th straight win Sunday beating the Marlins 7-6.

For the third time in the series, Miami got first blood taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Jacob Realmuto grounded into a force play that scored Martin Prado. The Mets challenged the call but lost on the replay.

Then in the 4th the Mets exploded on Marlins starter Tim Koehler.  Daniel Murphy tied the game with an RBI single.  Juan Lagares extended his hitting streak to 7 straight games with an RBI single scoring Travis d’Arnaud.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis then managed a bases loaded walk to bring home Lucas Duda.

The big blow of the inning was a bases clearing 3 run double by Ruben Tejada. Tejada was brought home on a RBI single from d’Arnaud as the Mets batted around in the inning.  Harvey went 6 innings allowing 8 hits 4 runs (all earned) walking none and striking out 7.  Harvey tired in the 7th allowing three straight hits capped by an RBI single by Adeiny Hechavarria to make it 7-3. Jerry Blevins came on and retired the first two batters who faced him without allowing a run to score…but was injured when a Dee Gordon liner hit off his pitching arm. Blevins gave way to Alex Torres who tossed a wild pitch scoring Realmuto to make it 7-4. Buddy Carlyle pitched the 8th inning and ran into trouble allowing sac-flies by Marcel Ozuna and Realmuto and suddenly the Mets had a 1 run lead at 7-6.

Jeurrys Familia pitched the 9th for his 6th save.

Harvey improves to 3-0 on the year; Familia got his 6th save in 6 tries.  Tim Koehler takes the loss falling to 1-2. The 8th straight wins are the longest winning streak for the Mets since 2010.

The Mets sweep the Marlins but they lose both Jerry Blevins (fractured arm) and Travis d’Arnaud (fractured hand) in the game.

They stand at 10-3 on the year and are a perfect 7-0 at Citi Field. It's the first time in Met history that they've started a season 7-0 at home and this is their best record EVER through the first 13 games of the season. Monday is an off day. Tuesday the Braves come in for the last three games of this 10 game home stand. Jonathon Niese (1-0 1.59) goes for the Mets, Trevor Cahill (0-1 15.43) goes for Atlanta.
