Saturday afternoon in the Bronx, the Mets bounced back behind 8 2/3’s innings from Matt Harvey and three long balls as they down the Yankees 8-2.  The Mets took a 1-0 lead off the Yankees and C.C. In the bottom of the 3rd Daniel Murphy’s third mental mistake at 2nd base in three games lead to the Yankees first run on the day as Stephen Drew scored on a double play.  The Mets broke it open in the 4th scoring 4 times.  Juan Lagares tripled over Jacoby Ellsbury’s head to score Murphy from first to make it 2-1.  Wilmer Flores followed with an RBI single to center scoring Lagares and it was 3-1. Then Kevin Plawecki connected on his 1st major league homer, a line shot into the left field stands and the Mets led 5-1. In the 6th Eric Campbell led off the inning with an opposite field homer, his 1st on the year. Then Lagares, who had 4 hits on the day, singled went to 2nd on a wild pitch, advanced to third tagging on a pop out that Drew caught running down the right field line.  He then scored on Esmil Rogers second wild pitch of the inning. In the bottom of the 7th Mark Teixeira continued to go yard hitting a solo homer off Harvey, his 8th on the year to make it 7-2.  In the top of the 8th following singles by Lagares and Flores, Plawecki connected with an RBI single to make it 8-2. Harvey nearly went the distance going 8 2/3 allowing just 5 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 2 and struck out 7. Carlos Torres came on in the bottom of the 9th to retire former Met Chris Young to seal the win. Harvey tossed 107 pitches joins Bartolo Colon at 4-0 on the season.  For the bombers Sabathia had a rough day going 5 inning allowing 9 hits 7 runs (all earned) striking out 3. He takes the loss falling to 0-4.  Flores has now hit in 8 straight games. The day after Lagares’ 10 games hit streak is snapped he goes 4 for 4. Flores went  2 for 4 and Plawecki went 2 for 4 with the  homer and 3 RBI as the Met offense was powered by the bottom three in their lineup. With the win, the Mets improve to 14-4 on the year and 4-4 on the road.  Sunday night it’s the rubber game of this 3 games set.  Jonathon Niese (2-0 1.50) goes for the Mets, Nathan Eovaldi (1-0 3.12) goes for the Yankees.

  1. Harvey great, and boom, boom, boom, I love the offense. Hats off the K Plawecki, and some opposite field HR by Soup Campbell.

  2. Murphy playing like he had money on the Yankees. I'm ready for Herrera. Send Muno down and Murphy to the bench if they can't get anything for him.

It's nice when you lose players like Wright and d'Arnaud and you still have all 8 cylinders working.

  4. One thing you have to love about Campbell and Plawecki is that they were both coached extremely well. They play the game the right way. Even when they go hitless they find ways to help their team win.
I hope that is something that is happening in the Mets system and I hope we continue to see it.
