Ft. Myers 3 - St. Lucie 2

Aderlin Mejia knocked a pinch hit single off the glove of Amed Rosario to drive in the winning run as the Fort Myers Miracle edged the St. Lucie Mets 3-2 in 11 innings on Sunday.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead to the top of the ninth but Nikko Goodrum hit a sac fly off of Robby Coles with the bases loaded to tie the game.

The Mets loaded the bases with no one out in the 10th, but Todd Van Steensel recovered to strike out Colton Plaia, Victor Cruzado and Champ Stuart to keep the game tied 2-2.

In the 11th, Jason Kanzler started the Miracle rally with a one-out bunt single. He moved to third on Engelb Vielma’s single. Kyle Regnault intentionally walked Goodrum to load the bases and create a force play at every base. However, Mejia came off the bench and drove a sharp liner from Ricky Knapp of Rosario’s glove. The ball trickled into left and Kanzler jogged home for the game winner.

It was a pitcher’s duel early. Rob Whalen gave up one unearned run in five innings and twice stranded the bases loaded.

Michael Conforto tied the game in the sixth with a leadoff home run against Miracle starter Ryan Eades.

The Mets took their only lead of the game in the eighth. Matt Oberste drove a one-out triple to the right-center gap and scored on a Maikis De La Cruz single.

But the Mets couldn’t hold on. After Mike Hepple and Coles retired all nine batter faced in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, the Miracle mounted a ninth inning comeback. It culminated with Goodrum’s RBI sac fly.

The Mets ended up stranding 16 base runners.

Conforto went 3 for 5 with fourth home run of the season. De La Cruz recorded the first four-hit game for the Mets.

Regnault suffered the loss while J.T. Chargois got the victory.
