Binghamton 9 - New Hampshire 8

A Xorge Carrillo sacrifice fly gave Binghamton the walk-off win, 9-8, against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. It capped off a career-high five RBI game for Carrillo, who homered earlier in the night. Dustin Lawley homered in the same inning, as the Binghamton bats awoke, scoring more than five runs for the first time in 13 games.

Binghamton gave away a four run lead in the seventh before scoring twice in the ninth, once on a balk, to secure their third walk-off victory of the season.

New Hampshire struck first for the second straight game, scoring three first inning runs. With two outs, Kevin Nolan singled in a run with an infield single to third base. The next two batters would double, with the latter one brining in two runs for Jack Murphy.

Trailing 3-0 for the second straight game, the B-Mets responded quickly. The first four batters reached to begin the second inning against former big leaguer Joel Pineiro. David Cooper got Binghamton on the board with an RBI double to right field, his first hit as a B-Met. Carrillo followed with a ground rule double to drive in his first two runs of the game. Binghamton later took the lead on a Jared King fielder’s choice.

After retiring the first two batters of the fifth inning, Lawley took Pineiro deep to left field for his fourth home run of the season. Cooper followed with a single, ending Pineiro’s night. Austin Bibens-Dirkx entered and was greeted with Carrillo’s second home run of the year.

Binghamton took their 7-3 lead to the seventh inning, bringing Beck Wheeler on in relief. New Hampshire chipped away, as Dwight Smith singled with one out and moved to second on a Wheeler throwing error. With two outs, he was doubled in by Kevin Nolan, his second RBI of the night.

Dario Alvarez came on in the eighth to preserve a 7-4 lead. The Fisher Cats loaded the bases with one out on three singles off the southpaw. Jon Berti then cleared the bases, doubling into the left field corner and tying the game at seven. For the second time in their last three games against New Hampshire, Binghamton blew a four run lead in the last three innings. Alvarez and Paul Sewald combined to strand Berti at third and keep the game tied.

After striking out the first two batters of the ninth, Sewald surrendered the go-ahead home run to Pierce Rankin, his second of the season. It was the first home run allowed by Sewald this year.
Trailing 8-7, Binghamton began the bottom of the ninth with three consecutive singles, loading the bases against Blake McFarland. Facing Lawley, McFarland balked in the tying run, knotting the game at eight. Lawley was intentionally walked to reload the bases and after a Cooper strikeout, Carrillo became the hero with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The B-Mets (20-15) continue their series with the Fisher Cats Friday night, with a 1:05 PM first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton RHP John Gant (1-3, 4.78) gets the ball against LHP John Anderson (1-2, 5.22).

POSTGAME NOTES: All three runs allowed by Blake McFarland this season have come against the B-Mets. He has given up eight hits this year, four to Binghamton…The B-Mets are now 10-6 in one run games…It was the first win for Binghamton this season when committing three errors - Team press release
