The Lakewood BlueClaws scratched out a 4-0 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats, who have dropped three straight and four-of-five on this homestand, have scored one run in the first 18 innings against Lakewood.
The BlueClaws (12-11) scored the game's first run in the top of the first. Shortstop Malquin Canelo singled, stole second and scored on first baseman Rhys Hopkins double into left field.
Lakewood added a run in the fourth using a method very similar to the first inning. Centerfielder Carlos Tocci singled, stole second and scored a Hoskins single into right.
The BlueClaws added two more runs in the seventh. Starter Josh Prevost (0-4) allowed the first two men to reach on a single and a walk before departing after 6.2 innings. Reliever Jimmy Duff entered to allow RBI singles to LF Cord Sandberg and Tocci. Tocci finished 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI.
The Gnats (7-15) had baserunners in all but two innings - the second and the ninth - but were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. - team press release
