Friday night Matt Harvey struck out 11...but a 3 run home
run by Justin Bour in the 3rd inning was more than the Mets offense
could overcome. The Marlins beat the Mets 4-3. Harvey was throwing darts and
had shut out the Marlins for the first 3. In the 4th Dee Gordon
reached on an infield hit and stole 2nd. Martin Prado walked and then Bour wrapped a 3
run dinger around the right field foul pole and the Fish led 3-0. In the bottom of the inning Lucas Duda
continued his long ball glut with a solo homer into the 2nd deck in
right, his 9th on the year.
In the 5th a RBI single by Prado made it 4-1. The Mets climbed to 4-2 when Curtis
Granderson hit a solo shot, number 6 on the year for him in the 6th.
In the bottom of the 9th the
Mets made a run at it. Ruben Tejada singled and went to second on a wild pitch.
Daniel Murphy doubled him home to bring the Mets to within 1. But new Marlin
closer A.J. Ramos struck out Michael Cuddyer and got Wilmer Flores on a ground
out for his 3rd save. Harvey went
8 innings allowing 6 hits 4 runs (all earned) he walked 1 and struck out 11. He
takes his 2nd straight loss falling to 5-3. Vet Dan Haren allowed just the 2 solo dingers
in 7 innings to get the win. He’s now 5-2. With the loss the Mets fall to 27-22
on the year and 20-7 at Citi Field. Coming into the game the Marlins had lost
14 of 17. At the end of the game the Mets lose a chance to gain on the Nationals as they fell to the Reds on Friday as they stay 1 1/2 games behind in the NL East.Saturday Afternoon
it’s game 2 of the series Jon Niese (3-5
4.08) goes for the Mets, Tom Koehler (3-3 3.44) goes for Miami.
Same old story I guess.
ReplyDeleteHarvey can't solve the Marlins.
Mets hitters can't hit together in the same inning.
They lose by under 3runs again.
It happens.
Get em tomorrow.
I was at the game. Harvey was perfect the first 3. Then Dee Gordon took advantage of Ruben's 3B inexperience (he was too deep at 3:-) and laid down a nice bunt for a bit, which opened the floodgates.
ReplyDeleteEvery grounder the Mets hit was right at somebody.
Duda in 9th, after Ruben singled, took a nice to hit strike 1 and fanned on 2 bad pitches. Lucas, be aggressive in those situations on the first strike!
Then some drama, then disappointment, Another mostly brilliant brilliant Harvey effort flushed. They need to hit for this gem.
